Ysgol Tir Morfa - Newsletter

FRIDAY 6th MARCH 2026

Dear Parents and Carers,

It has been a wonderful week in school as we celebrated St. David’s Day. We finished off our ‘Wythnos Cymraeg’ with a wonderful Eisteddfod on each of the sites. Pupils and staff embraced the celebrations with great enthusiasm, enjoying a range of activities that highlighted Welsh culture and language. We also had lots of fun celebrating World Book Day on Thursday.  It was fantastic to see so much creativity in costumes and such excitement around books and stories across the school.   A quick reminder to families that Pupil Progress Meetings will be taking place next week. The session for Ffordd Derwen pupils will be held on Tuesday 10th March, and Grange Road pupils will follow on Wednesday 11th March. These meetings are a valuable opportunity to discuss your child’s progress and celebrate their achievements together.   Finally, we look forward to seeing many of you at the Friends of Tir Morfa Bingo Night next Thursday 12th March  from 6pm – 7.30pm. It promises to be a fun evening for our school community and a great way to support the wonderful work of our Friends group.   Thank you, as always, for your continued support   Wishing you all a very happy and restful weekend.

Kind regards,

Susan H. Roberts

Headteacher

Attendance Information for Parents and Carers

As part of our continued focus on attendance this year, we have decided to share attendance data regularly with parents and carers through our newsletter. Attendance remains one of our school priorities, and we believe that sharing this information helps keep everyone informed and working together to support our pupils. In Wales, the Welsh Government defines good attendance as 95% or above. Attendance of 90% or below is classed as persistent absence. These benchmarks are used nationally across schools in Wales. We would like to reassure families that we fully recognise that many pupils at YTM have significant health or medical needs which may make it difficult, or sometimes impossible, to meet these targets. As a school, we understand this and want to be very clear that no parent or carer should feel pressured or judged where absences are due to genuine health-related reasons. Our intention in sharing attendance data is simply to ensure transparency and awareness of our overall school attendance and the expectations placed upon us as a school. We value our strong partnership with families and appreciate your continued support in helping pupils attend whenever they are able to do so. If you would like to discuss attendance in relation to your child, please do not hesitate to contact the school - we are always happy to work together to provide the best possible support.
