In 1984, Apple ran their very first advertisement for the Macintosh Computer during the 1984 Super Bowl and legendary Host Alex Trebek began his tenure on Jeopardy! Also in 1984, we had four colleagues begin their careers at Wake Forest:

In 1989, The Joel Coliseum was opened and became home to our Wake Forest Men’s and Women’s Basketball Teams and Tim Berners-Lee proposed the World Wide Web (WWW), starting the internet as we know it today!

In 1999, the Wake Forest School of Divinity was founded–24 students enrolled in that first class–the United States Women's Soccer Team hosted and won the FIFA Women’s World Cup, and Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On” from the Titanic soundtrack won record of the year at the 1999 Grammys.

In 2014, legendary author and Wake Forest faculty member Maya Angelou passed away–her memorial was hosted on campus in June 2014–Breaking Bad won the Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series, and the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge went viral online, raising over $220M worldwide.
