š¶Say Hello to Aikotaan
Aikotaan SoCal Association 501(c)(3) is a volunteer-run group here in Southern California thatās all about giving back, connecting socially, and supporting our community throughout the year.
Weāre a welcoming bunch who love celebrating diversity and sharing our rich cultural heritage. Aikotaan is a place where the next generation can shine - showing off their creative talents and staying connected to the traditions of Bengal and Eastern India.
Our main goal is to keep alive the religious, cultural, and educational activities that come from our roots in Bengal and Eastern India.
On top of that, we bring people together through fun social events, sports, music, and festivalsābuilding friendships and good vibes all around.
And weāre always excited to share the beauty of Indiaās culture - especially Bengalās - with everyone through our community outreach and programs.
āļø Aikotaanās Annual Picnic: Sun, Smiles & Shenanigans! š³
What do you get when you mix perfect weather, delicious food, and a whole bunch of amazing people? Aikotaanās 2nd annual summer picnic, of course!
Held at Irvine Regional Park, the day kicked off at 11 AM with a breakfast that had everyone coming back for seconds (and thirds!) - think crispy Kochuri, spicy Alur Dum, and syrupy-sweet Jilipi. Yum!
Then it was time to burn off those calories - or at least pretend to - with fun and games for all ages. The kids got grooving with Freeze Dance and Red Light, Green Light, while the grown-ups brought out their competitive side in Musical Chairs and their own version of Red Light, Green Light (spoiler alert: just as chaotic!).
A cheerful train ride around the park brought everyone together for a bit of scenic bondingāand photo ops galore!
After a tasty lunch, the laughter continued with the always-entertaining Pass the Ball couples game. All around, the park echoed with chatter, giggles, selfies, and new connections as we welcomed several wonderful new faces into the Aikotaan family.
As the sun dipped below the trees, the day wrapped up with happy hearts, full bellies, and memories weāll be smiling about all year long.
Until next timeāAikotaan rocks! š

Sudarshana:
Good afternoon and a big, sunny hello from Aikotaan! Weāre out here soaking up the vibes at our annual picnic - catching up with familiar faces and meeting some fantastic new friends. Today, weāve got a little surprise! Weāre spotlighting someone whoās not brand new to Aikotaan but still a bit of a mystery to many. Time to lift the curtain and get to know her a little better!
Say hello to Poulomi! Ready, Poulomi?
Poulomi:
Hi there! Iām Poulomi Paul - your friendly picnic companion! Iāve been soaking up the Irvine sunshine for 2.5 years now. When Iām not munching on snacks, youāll find me singing, dancing, or lost in soulful poetry. I love listening to music and reading fan fiction too.
Sudarshana:
Spoke like a "khanti" Bangali! So, whatās your idea of a chill weekend?
Poulomi:
My kind of weekend? Roaming around the city, discovering new placesāand naturally, some pet-pujo with good food is a must!
Sudarshana:
[laughing out loud] Sounds like you and I will gel right in - we have so many things in common... Now, spill the beans - How did you find about Aikotaan?
Poulomi:
It was actually through my husband. We were looking for a Bengali community that offered a sense of belonging, warmth and that familiar vibe - a welcoming nest. And just like that, his friends kept saying, 'You have to check out Aikotaan - itās where all the good vibes are!' And honestly? They were spot on!
Sudarshana:
Wow! Seems like the Aikotaan vibes have you hooked already! So, are you ready to dive into the heart and heat of Bengali warmth with Aikotaan this Durga Puja?
Poulomi:
Super excited! Being away from home, Aikotaanās Durga Puja really makes me feel like Iām right back with my people and connected with my roots.
Sudarshana:
So, what if Dugga Thakur granted you a superpower this year - what would you pick?
Poulomi:
Iād want to speak every language! Imagine the adda, the songs, the endless conversations - what more could you ask for as a Bangali?
Sudarshana:
That sounds amazing! Just imagine all the stories and songs we get to hear from you. What can we do to bring you back to us?
Poulomi:
Honestly, you guys are doing a wonderful job at Aikotaan. Iād just say - let's keep the Bangaliyana alive. Keep nurturing that Indian warmth so everyone here can continue to feel like theyāve found a home away from home.
Sudarshana:
Beautifully said. Thanks, Poulomi!
