2023 Legislative Reception

The Office of the Adjutant General hosted the 2023 Legislative Reception at the N.D. National Guard's Army Aviation Support Facility in Bismarck, N.D., Dec. 6, 2022. (National Guard story by Staff Sgt. Brandi Schmidt, 116th Public Affairs Detachment)

Approximately 40 legislative representatives from across the state attended. The purpose of the reception was to engage, inform, and educate N.D. state legislators on activities, initiatives and programs of the N.D. National Guard, N.D. Dept of Emergency Services and the N.D. Wing, Civil Air Patrol. The last Legislative Reception was in 2017.

“I’m grateful to those legislative representatives that were able to attend tonight,” said Maj. Gen. Alan Dohrmann, the Adjutant General, N.d. National Guard. “Our Soldiers, Airmen, and civilian employees worked hard to make this event a meaningful experience.”

Various N.D. Army and Air National Guard elements such as explosive ordinance, security forces, military police, air defense, aviation, civil support, and engineers were present to highlight the importance of their role in the state of North Dakota.

State legislators were able to mingle and discuss various roles that are hosted under the Office of the Adjutant General.

The National Guard Association of the United States provided a meal for all in attendance.

The Division of State Radio is the 9-1-1 answering point for 25 of North Dakota’s 53 counties and executes all communications and dispatch requirements for law enforcement, fire and emergency medical services. In total, State Radio supports more than 4,000 individual users across federal, state, local and tribal agencies.

Outgoing Command Sgt. Maj. Russ Garrett relinquished duties to Command Sgt. Maj. Joseph Wesson. Garrett will assume command sergeant major duties for the 68th Troop Command on Dec. 11, 2022, while Wesson's previous assignment was the top non-commissioned officer for the 131st Military Police Battalion.

Thanksgiving Morale Call

The N.D. Guard MPs briefed the chairman on their mission in support of U.S. Central Command. Milley asked the Soldiers about their civilian life and occupations, military career, and the deployment itself.
