Portfolio by Christopher White
Introduction
In this portfolio I will be firstly identifying and researching a problem that the outdoor partnership are facing. I will then through primary and secondary research techniques try to devise a solution to this problem and discuss how my film will help create value for the stakeholders
My Idea
Synopsis - What problem am I addressing?
I have chosen to make my film about the women's only group at Llandysul Paddlers set up by the Outdoor Partnership. I will be interviewing one of the members of the group to explain what the club is about, how it has impacted her, how the Outdoor Partnership have helped in the creation and support of this group, and to help encourage others to join. I will also be filming the group paddling on the river concentrating on capturing the more relaxing and less adventurous elements to ensure its comes across as inclusive as possible for people with no experience in paddling and are a bit apprehensive.
Rationale - Why I chose to make this film
This project was an excellent opportunity for many reasons it gave me an excuse to practise my filmmaking skills in new environments, as a story teller its always great fun to share an interesting story and this was no exception. However, this is not the main reason I chose to do this film, I did it because after finding out about the brilliant work the Outdoor Partnership are doing in getting people into the outdoors I knew I had to do whatever I can to help make people aware of what they do, and hopefully by sharing the story of the women at Llandysul Paddlers I can inspire more women to get into the outdoors I think this is especially important when you consider that historically women have been underrepresented in outdoor activities.
Becoming a changemaker:
What is a Changemaker? Simply put, a changemaker is someone who is taking creative action to solve a social problem. Thus, whether sparking a global movement or stopping a classroom bully, a founder of a social enterprise or an employee of a multinational company, every changemaker is: • Intentional about solving a social problem (Rahman, Herbst and Mobley, 2016). As a filmmaker who wants to make primarily non-fiction films I think its really important to keep this in mind and strive to be a changemaker because I think there's is an enormous potential for doing good in storytelling and I think this benefits all parties not only the people you are directly trying to help but its also very rewarding to do and I think the audience resonates with something with a cause.
Who benefits from this project?
The graphic below describes the 5x2 values that can be achieved through creation (Martin Lackéus, 2022).
My goal with this project is to deliver on these values for the stakeholders.

Pitching and Feedback
The first idea I pitched was a more adventurous montage style film which I pitched to my lecturers who warned me of the risk of it being a bit generic and lacking in the story department. Which I took on board. I then called Sioned and pitched my new idea which was to follow one person from the clubs story of how she joined the club and her experience within it. Sioned liked the idea but added that she would like the film to be a bit less adventurous and highlight the social aspects of the club in order to encourage new less experienced members to join.
