Welcome to the February 2024 newsletter from Lydon Contracting Ltd. We're proud of the work we do and want to share our latest news, useful information and staff updates.
Job well done!
During the month of February we completed all of the civils works at the Oxford Bus Company located in Cowley, Oxford. The project involved the construction of:
- Concrete bases to facilitate the installation of 52 Vehicle Electric Charging Points
- 3 Reinforced concrete bases for HV transformers and a 50-metre bespoke designed retaining wall to the perimeter of the site
- Concrete pillars to support 3 containerised switch rooms.
- Excavation of over 500 metres of trenching to facilitate HV/LV and communication Cables.
- Armco protection barriers.
- Extension to existing concrete yard to facilitate additional bus parking spaces.
This project has been a great example of collaborative working between the bus depot operator and our supply chain to ensure a successful installation with no accidents/incidents.
No job too small
We pride ourselves here at Lydon Contracting on our ability to undertake all manner of works from small minor diversion works to major multi-year utility projects.
During February we were engaged to assist with the installation of a 125mm gas main. Due to the location of the works and congested nature of the ground (including a medium pressure gas main), we quickly deployed our vacuum excavator to the works to ensure safe excavation and the connection could be made.
Our vacuum excavator has been with us for over a year now and it is proving to be a great investment with overall unknown utility strikes significantly reduced year on year.
Straight and narrow
This month the offsite work has commenced for the HV supply to a new HV metered substation at the Yardley Wood bus depot, Birmingham. The offsite route is approximately 950m of twin circuit duct installation through residential areas.
Ready for take-off!
We also broke ground on another HV substation build on the outside of Stansted Airport this month! The first task will be the construction of the new access road and S278 Works to provide safe access/egress to the site, including a new drainage culvert.
Given the wet weather we have experienced during February this has been somewhat of a challenge but the teams have made great progress considering.
Field work
We are progressing well since our last update on the HV substation build at Bicester. With the temporary access road complete, works have commenced within the construction areas.
Considering the very wet weather we seem to be constantly experiencing, the team have adapted well in completing the topsoil strip, reduce dig levels, concrete blinding and putting in subbase materials for future road access.
The next phase of works will see the installation of timber formwork and fixing steel for the construction of 11kV and 33kv Switch Rooms, and two HV Transformer Bunds.
Investing in quality equipment
During February we have taken delivery of some more new vehicles in our continued effort to keep our road vehicle fleet up to date. These include 2no. Vauxhall Vivaro Panel Vans and 1no. Nissan Interstar Tekna Tipper all fitted with Lydon livery, beacons, towbars and deadlocks ready to hit the road.
Exciting new alert!
