Cab Calloway Mission: Cab Calloway School of the Arts offers a rigorous learning experience that integrates the arts and academics to foster the growth of independent inquiry, critical and creative thinking, and the innovative application of acquired skills.

Calendars and Resources

One Hour- Two Hour Delay Schedule

  • Tuesday January 7, 2025 will be an A4 Day.
  • Due to the two hour delay, please refer to the below schedules

Arrival and Dismissal Routines

  • Doors Open at 6:50 AM
  • Reminder: No drop off in the front after 7:00 AM or as directed by staff (Mr. Brown)
  • Reminder: Dropping students off in the front without being directed impacts traffic flow and is a safety issue.
  • The first class begins at 7:25 AM. Any student not in class by 7:25 must sign in at the ticket booth in the lobby.
  • Students arriving after 7:40 must sign in at the Main Office. Students arriving late will be marked “absent unexcused late (AUL)” in the Eschool system unless an excuse note is provided by the attendance policy outlined in the Red Clay Student Code of Conduct. A detention will be issued to any student who is late to school (unexcused) 3 or more times in a week.
  • The student day ends at 2:10. Any student not staying for an extracurricular activity must leave campus by 3:30 PM.
  • Afterschool activities run from 2:30-4:30. Middle School students must remain on campus from 2:10-2:30.
  • High school students may leave campus before their after school activity if their parents have permitted for them to leave by completing this form.

Cab Community Carpooling

  • Use this sheet to find other families who are interested in putting together a carpool.
  • It is the responsibility of each person/s seeking a carpool to initiate contact.
  • Cab Calloway’s staff will not negotiate carpools for any student and will not share personal information with other families.
  • Any information shared on this sheet is your responsibility.
  • It is recommended that participants check the list periodically throughout the school year for new additions.

8th Grade Fast Track Eligibility Reminder

  • To qualify for the Fast Track, students must meet the following criteria:
  • Major-Specific Fast Track: The Fast Track is specific to a student’s current major. If your child wishes to explore another art area or change their major for high school, they must complete the standard assessment process for the desired area.
  • Opportunities for All Students: Students who do not meet the Fast Track criteria can still apply for high school admission to Cab Calloway School of the Arts through the regular assessment process.
  • Application Information: All students considering attending Cab Calloway School of the Arts for high school must apply to www.schoolchoicede.org by January 8, 2025.
  • Assessment dates and times will be sent to your email.

Upcoming iReady Winter Diagnostic Testing

  • Winter administration of the iReady diagnostic testing will take place when we return from break for Grades 6-8 (Math) and 6-9 (Reading). Schedule is as follows:
  • Tuesday, 1/7 and Wednesday, 1/8: Reading
  • Thursday, 1/9 and Friday, 1/10: Math
  • Monday/ 1/13 through Thursday, 1/16: Make Ups

Food Truck Wednesday’s

  • Every other Wednesday a food Truck will be on campus after school from 2:30-5:30 PM.
  • Blue Hen Food truck will resume service on January 15, 2025
  • The aim of having Food Truck Wednesday’s is to minimize the need to leave campus to get something to eat during after school programs.
Environmental Team Highlighted for NFWF Grant
  • The Delaware River Conservation Fund (DWCF) and National Fish and Wildlife Federation (NFWF) celebrated the organizations that received grant funds for environmental projects in the Delaware River Watershed.
  • In September 2023, the NFWF, through the DFRC, awarded the Red Clay Consolidated School District a grant to fund watershed restoration projects on school campuses. The restoration projects are intended to create, “schoolyard habitats that ultimately bring students outside to learn, help prevent rain runoff, and restore our watershed,” according to Supervisor of Science Education Brian Mattix.
  • Cab Calloway was awarded up to $5,000 to be used for installing a meadow biodiversity lab that is being installed on the southeast corner of the property of the school. Teachers will be able to use this space for lessons across all content areas, but life science courses will benefit in particular from the installation of the biodiversity lab.
NHS Blood Drive
  • NHS and the Delmarva Blood Bank sponsored a Blood Drive on December 9th.
  • Several staff, students, and teachers committed to saving lives by participating in this program.
Winter Mini Showcase Outreach
  • On December 18, 2024, we invited over 750 elementary students to attend the annual mini winter showcase outreach to learn about Cab Calloway School of the Arts programming , but to be inspired and encouraged through the gift of the arts before the winter break.

Jocelyn: Leading Youth Through Empowerment Scholar Intern Recipient
  • Jocelyn was among the 5th Cohort award-winning Future Leaders Internship Initiative (#FLII) graduated with the HIGHEST intern evaluation ratings in its five-year history!
  • What began with 25 interns five years ago has grown to over 200+ participants, and every intern to date has been accepted into an HBCU, Ivy League, or traditional university—many with full scholarships.
  • Jocelyn is a recipient of one of the top intern awards and is found here in the photos with Kimberly Reed 100 most influential women leader in the world.

  • Please join us on January 20, 2025 for the 3rd Annual MLK Day of Service sponsored by BSU and NHS.
  • Donations of clothing, hygiene products, can goods, and perishable goods.
  • This event looks to serve to local communities with performances and workshops.
