#12 Women’s Ice Hockey Sweeps #2 Amherst in Statement NESCAC Series
Colby traveled to the Bay State over the weekend to match up with an unbeaten in-conference opponent, the Amherst Mammoths.
In Friday night’s contest, the Mules struck just 57 seconds in when Maria Piece found Courtney Schumacher in the neutral zone, sending Schumacher in alone on the Amherst netminder. Schumacher made an impressive move on net, tucking the puck just inside the far post. In the second period, Addie Paskowski notched an insurance goal off a won offensive zone faceoff from Kayliegh Michaud-Nolan as Paskowski's shot sailed into the upper corner. Ally Martiniello was spectacular in net stopping all 39 shots she faced and backboning Colby to the 2-0 win marking the first time the Mammoths has been shutout in NESCAC play in over three years.
The Mules returned on Saturday determined to leave their mark. This time it was Marion Legge getting the game's first goal, using the man advantage and a beautiful pass from Sophie Melsness to find the back of the net. The Mammoths tied it at one midway through the first and the game remained deadlocked 1-1 at the end of regulation and the five minute overtime. Martiniello was again a brick wall for the Mules stopping a career high 47 shots. Colby edged Amherst 1-0 in the three player shootout as Martiniello made all three saves and Lulu Gray got the lone score to send the Mules home with the weekend sweep. Colby's commitment to team defense was evident all weekend and their play on the penalty kill was remarkable, killing all eight penalties.
Martiniello earned NESCAC Player of the Week for her efforts, the second in as many weeks for Colby.
Women’s Ice Hockey (14-4-1 overall and 8-3-1 in conference, good for 3rd place) has two NESCAC series remaining on the 2025-26 schedule starting with Wesleyan at home this week. Despite four games to go, Colby has already clinched a spot in the NESCAC postseason.
Men’s Basketball Secures Back-to-Back Home Wins, Celebrates Seniors
The Mules put together a strong home stand this week, earning a pair of NESCAC victories over Williams and Middlebury inside the Margaret M. Crook Center.
Colby opened its week with a 64–52 win over Williams, powered by a commanding first half. The Mules built a 40-15 halftime lead behind elite defense holding Williams to just 21% shooting and 1-for-15 from deep. Dan Civello (headline photo) led the way with 22 points including four three-pointers in the contest. Theo Pow anchored the interior with 10 points and nine rebounds, while Mason Dobie (nine points) and Sam Hinman (eight points) added steady contributions. The Mules controlled the paint with a 38–20 scoring advantage and finished the night with a +16 edge on the glass.
The next day, Colby capped the week with an outstanding second-half surge to defeat Middlebury 83-71 on Senior Day. After honoring seniors Max Poulton, Rashard Doyal, Miles Drake and team manager Johnny Kinsley, the Mules delivered a 54-point second half to flip a seven-point halftime deficit into a convincing conference win. Poulton delivered 22 points and six rebounds, while Civello followed with 21 points and eight boards, including a perfect 9-for-9 from the free-throw line and three blocks. Pow added 11 points, eight rebounds and three steals. Colby’s efficiency was the difference late, shooting 42% in the second half and going 25-of-29 at the stripe overall.
Men’s Basketball (16-6 overall and 4-4 in NESCAC, good for 7th place) clinched a playoff spot and now turns their attention to the final stretch of conference play, facing Trinity Friday and Wesleyan Saturday on the road. Both teams sit above the Mules in the NESCAC standings.

Women’s Basketball Takes Two of Three to Stay in the Mix for Postseason Play
Colby delivered a productive week, earning two victories out of three games to continue building momentum as the regular season winds down.
The Mules began the week Tuesday with a convincing 66–48 win over UMaine-Farmington. Kate Olenik led the effort with a 16-point, 11-rebound double double, while Lydia Mordarski (11 points) and Chelsea Ibenegbu (10 points) both contributed double digit scoring. The Mules shot 46% from the field, assisted on 12 baskets, and had nine different players score. A 37-20 rebounding margin and strong paint play helped Colby cruise to the road victory.
The momentum carried into NESCAC play with a close 68–62 road win at Williams, highlighted by a trio of Mules combining for 63 of the teams 68 points. Olenik scored 24 followed by Mordarski with 22 and Amelia Hanscom with 17. Colby’s dominant opening quarter outscoring the Ephs 19-8 was a major factor in the end result while also forcing 15 Williams turnovers. Colby wrapped the week with a narrow 57–53 loss at Middlebury. Mordarski scored 15 points and Hanscom added 13, but a cold third quarter proved costly despite a strong push in the fourth.
Up next, the 13-9 Mules (3-5 in conference, good for 7th) return home for key NESCAC matchups against Trinity and Wesleyan as the postseason picture continues to take shape. Three other NESCAC teams currently have a 3-5 conference record as well.

The Mules showed resilience this weekend, taking on two NESCAC opponents in Amherst and #2 Hamilton.
On Friday, Colby traded goals with the Mammoths with Colby Browne netting both of the team’s markers. Both Wyatt Schmidek and Connnor Gallagher picked up assists on the second goal. However, in the second half of the final period, Amherst scored twice more to edge out a 4-2 win. Saturday, Colby squared off against the conference’s top-seed in #2 Hamilton resulting in a high-scoring contest. The first period saw seven goals alone with the Mules heading into the second with a 4-3 lead. After the opening intermission, Hamilton took control scoring four straight and winning the contest 7-4. Jayden Grier scored two of the Mules four goals while Browne picked up his third of the week representing his NESCAC leading 17th goal of the season.
