The Story Behind NOSON®

Thomas Müller

Co-founders of NOSON®

During my apprenticeship as a dental technician, I was fascinated by the precision of individualized solutions. After specializing in orthodontics, I created custom dental braces from plastic and wire, always tailored exactly to the individual.

My interest soon shifted to a topic that affects millions: snoring. I began developing protrusion splints and thus embarked on my personal journey.

Because I myself suffered from a nasal valve collapse, I have tried numerous products available on the market. Nasal dilators didn’t work, and other nasal aids were uncomfortable. So I built something myself, using materials like wire and silicone.

For many years, I have developed, refined, and transformed this concept with the support of leading ENT doctors from Switzerland. Their feedback was clear:

The ideal nasal dilator is crafted from a single piece, is stable, and works as unobtrusively and effectively as possible.

Thus, NOSON® was born:

A high-quality nasal dilator with maximum effectiveness and optimal wearing comfort. Today, NOSON® is not just a product, but a solution that has been embraced by ENT doctors, sleep specialists, and many others.

My personal pride:

Every NOSON® nasal dilator is produced with meticulous craftsmanship in Zurich, by people with disabilities. It is genuine Swiss craftsmanship quality with social engagement.

I am pleased every time I see NOSON® grow and demonstrate that hard work, precision, and heart pay off.

Karl Kieser

Co-founder of NOSON®

I am not a doctor. However, I have helped develop a product to improve the quality of life for people around the world - namely, a freer, more effective nasal breathing.

My journey began in technical craftsmanship, followed by an apprenticeship as a telecommunications technician, and then a second training as an IT specialist. Later, I worked on various IT projects. This path has led me to where I am today, collaborating with technical specialists and scaling projects.

In 2018, I met Tom in Zurich, a developer with a simple yet powerful idea: a small nasal dilator to ease breathing. The concept was promising, but the implementation was not yet marketed. What followed was the beginning of a partnership that could hardly have worked out better.

Tom, the creative pragmatist. I, the strategic perfectionist.

Together, we reimagined the product from the ground up. Over 100 iterations later, NOSON® is a high-quality lifestyle product that opens the airways in the nose, enhancing airflow, be it in sports, everyday life, or at night.

I have not only developed the product but also built the entire system around it. Production in social workshops, brand building, online distribution, process automation, and international expansion. For me, NOSON® is not just another consumer product, but evidence that genuine impact arises from the connection of technology, precision, and humanity.

My personal claim:

No growth without values. No product without real benefit. No success without responsibility.

Today, I am proud that NOSON® stands for better breathing. It embodies the strength of an uncompromising idea.

Stronger Together: Our Partnership with Zürichwerk

At NOSON® we believe in smart solutions not just for free breathing, but also when it comes to collaboration. That’s why we are excited about our long-term partnership with the Zürichwerk Foundation.

Zürichwerk offers people with disabilities not only job opportunities but also a genuine sense of belonging.

The Goal: Living Inclusion - In Daily Life and in the Workplace. And this is exactly what we are working on together.

Our story with Zürichwerk began in 2019: with a suitcase full of silicone, wires, and fittings. We wanted to have the NOSON® nasal dilator produced locally while also passing by the assembly workshop in Altstetten to create some awareness.

The big question back then was: how can we develop a product while also integrating people with disabilities into the workforce? NOSON® co-founder Tom and I sought out employees and found a great deal of motivation and a wonderful portion of humor.

Since then, a lot has happened. To make production more accessible for more people, the Zürichwerk team even developed its own tools and built them in the internal mechanics department. This allowed additional employees to get involved.

What is particularly pleasing is that from one idea, a really beautiful partnership has grown.

The Zürichwerk-Noson team is like family to us. When Tom and the NOSON® team come to visit, there’s not only a lot of professional exchange but also plenty of laughter.

We are proud of this collaboration.

For us, this is further proof that social responsibility and entrepreneurial thinking can go hand in hand.

“The Noson nasal dilator convinces with its immediate effect. Nasal breathing noticeably improves right after insertion. It is an excellent alternative to nasal surgery for those suffering from restricted nasal breathing.”
