Tanzania Medical Trip Young Life Expeditions | June 25-July 4, 2026

Team Mission

Our mission is to bring a U.S. based team to visit a Maasai village that will host a combined Young Life Africa Medical and Missions Expedition. The medical component will be basic primary care and education. Non-medical particpants will assist with the clinic operations and interact with patients and the community surrounding the medical clinic.

JUNE 24 - JULY 3, 2026

Anticipated Itinerary (subject to change):

6/24 - Depart U.S.

6/25 - Arrive Arusha, Tanzania. Dinner at the hotel with the team. Meet the rest of the team - translators and local Young Life staff and leaders.

6/26- Mission prep day and team building in Arusha. Visit a local Young Life Club.

6/27 - Depart Arusha and travel to the village of Landanai. Set up camp and dinner with the team.

6/28 - Day 1 Medical clinic

6/29 - Day 2 Medical clinic

6/30 - Day 3 Medical clinic

7/01 - Day 4 Medical clinic

7/02 - Pack and travel back to Arusha. Celebration dinner with the team at the hotel.

7/03 - Shopping and depart to USA OR depart for an optional add-on adventure. Options below.

Trip Cost:

Medical Mission Trip Ground Cost: $ 2,900* Per person, double occupancy.

Airfare: $2,000* Estimated round trip airfare from the U.S. to Arusha/Kilimanjaro Airport (JRO) in Tanzania. You may book your flights independently using miles or pay direct. If you purchase airline tickets directly, Young Life is unable to provide a donation receipt. You should consult your tax advisor about the deductibility of these payments. The group traveling from Jacksonville will be booking tickets in January or February and everyone is encouraged to book the same connecting flight into JRO so that we can arrive as a group. If not booking with the group, arrival into the Kilimanjaro airport (airport code = JRO) should be on June 26. If you need to arrive earlier, there will be an extra charge for airport pick up and hotel cost. If you would like to book your flight with the group, $1500 must be paid by January 1 either via the Payment link or through donations raised through your Managed Missions fundraising page.

Not covered in the cost of the trip: Tanzania travel visa ($100). Also plan for costs incurred for immunizations, passports and incidentals.

SAFARI ADD-ON INFORMATION: We are offering a 2 night safari to Lake Manyara and the Ngorongoro Crater with our travel partner Beyond Adventures. Itinerary: 7/04: Morning pickup from hotel. 2.5 hour drive to Lake Manyara, game drives with box lunch. Lodging at Lake Manyara Serena Camp. 7/05: Early morning pick up and 1 hour drive to Ngorongoro Crater for sunrise game drives and all-day exploring. Lodging at the Ngorongoro Serena Camp. 7/06: Pick up and drive back to Arusha (approx 4 hours) and airport for flights home.

Safari Cost: $1,750 per person, double occupancy/triple may be available 50% deposit due by March 1 (please let Tina know if you are interested in joining the safari) 100% due by May 1

*Donations made through Managed Missions are tax deductible. Safari, Zanzibar and Kilimanjaro climb payments are not tax deductible.

  1. Create (or log into) your account. Fill in your personal info.
  2. Select trip code "XTZ03 Medical Trip 2026".
  3. Please read and acknowledge our Expedition policies before completing.
  4. Once your application is complete, you will receive an email that your registration is complete.
  5. Pay deposit to hold your spot. Link HERE to payment site. If you fundraise in excess of this deposit amount, it will be refunded to you. Funds raised beyond the cost of the trip will be used toward the group and other group expenses.
  6. Upload a copy of your passport to Managed Missions. Airline tickets will not be purchased without a valid passport. Passports must be valid for at least 6 months past the return date of your trip.
  7. Fundraising for the trip (excluding add-on trips) is available through Managed Missions. To set up a Fundraising page, click on "Public Profile", then fill out the section called "Trip Description" with information about the trip and asking people to support you by donating. Once you "Save and Publish" your page, you can share the link with friends and family or on social media. Donations made through the link you share will be applied to your account in 2-3 business days, and you can view them through the "Fundraising" link on your Managed Missions page.
  8. Donated funds are considered contributions to the Team. If cancellations occur, donated funds are used for the expenses of the Team, and cannot be refunded to donors.

Deposit and Payment Schedule:

  • Medical Mission project cost: $2,900 - includes all ground costs, transportation, lodging and food. Does not include airfare.
  • Deposit: $500 deposit due upon registration to secure your spot
  • $ 1,500 due by January 15, 2026
  • $ 2,900 due by April 1, 2026 (for Medical Mission project)

Airfare: May be purchased on your own, or we will be watching flights and will alert you when we see a low price and are ready purchase.

Ngorongoro Crater Safari: 3 day/2 nights - pricing TBD, please inquire if interested.

If you are interested in adding a safari or have other questions, please email Tina Atkinson at tatkinson@younglife.org to let us know you are interested. Commitments along with a $250 deposit per person will be due mid-January. Deposit for Safari (50%) is due March 1, 2026 and final payment is due May 1, 2026.

Donations made through Managed Missions are tax deductible. In Managed Missions, you can create a personal fundraising page called your "Public Profile". You can share this link with family and friends. You may "donate" through your own link. Donations are NOT refundable if there is a cancellation.

Payments (that are not donations) can be made by participants through the "Payment Link" found on your Managed Missions page. Payments are NOT tax deductible, but may be refunded under certain circumstances. Deposit payments can be refunded if donations are raised that cover the full cost of the trip.
