Dear Parents and Carers,
Thank you for all of your support in the absence of Ms McKenna. I speak to her regularly and she misses everybody in the school community. Ms McKenna will be working on her re-habilitation and is aiming to return to school as soon as she is able to. In the meantime, she asked me to thank everybody for their kind words and cards that have been sent.
I cannot believe that we are soon going to be in the final half term of this year! The weeks and months have flown by and we have had a great year so far! There is a lot going on over the next half term so check the dates list and make sure you haven't missed anything.
Below is a collection of news and information from school. I hope that everyone has a restful and happy half term break. Don't forget that Monday 2nd June is a training day and therefore school is closed to children. We look forward to seeing everyone again on Tuesday 3rd June.
Best wishes
Gary Burnett, Acting Headteacher
Caterpillar Class
As you might know already, Havannah First School, with the support of Newcastle City Council, are able to expand our Reception intake from 60 children to 90 children from September 2025. We are absolutely delighted for the local community and we are looking forward to opening Caterpillar Class alongside Honeybee and Ladybird Class in our Early Years unit. We are currently working on recruiting a teacher and teaching assistant to work with our brilliant Reception team!
Parent Governor Information
Congratulations to Mr Stuart Cannon (Harry's dad from Bramble Class) who was voted in as a Parent Governor in April. He will be a welcome addition to our Governing Body.
The 2025 Greggs Children's Cancer Run
We had the best ever turn out for the Greggs Children's Cancer Run on Sunday morning last weekend. It was wonderful to see so many smiling faces coming over the finish line. We are really proud of everyone who took part in either the 1 mile, 3 mile or even 5 mile run!
We had 128 runners from our school and we will let you know how much we raised in the next newsletter.
Here is a gallery with some of our pictures from the day. We are sorry if we missed you, it was very busy and we tried our best to get a picture of everyone from Havannah who was there. There is also a gallery on our school Instagram account where lots of our runners are featured.
Havannah Sporting Heroes
Well done to our Havannah Year 4 football teams and our skipping team for competing in the Gosforth Schools' Trust tournaments this half term. Not only did they display their skills and abilities but they also demonstrated their sporting values and attitudes!
Havannah Sports Mornings/ Afternoons
Summer Term 2 is when we host our annual sports mornings/afternoons for each year group. This year, NUF and Newcastle Sports Service are organising the activities and as always, you are invited to watch the fun and games and maybe even participate in an event! The dates of when they are taking place are below:
Reception - Friday 11th July 9 - 10am
Year 1 - Wednesday 18th June 2-3pm
Year 2 - Wednesday 25th June - 2-3pm
Year 3 - Tuesday 1st July - 2-3pm
Year 4 - Wednesday 9th July 2-3pm
Y4 Multiplication Tables Check
The children in Year 4 will be completing their Multiplication Tables Check during the first and second week back after the half term break. The Year 4 children have been working very hard on learning their multiplication tables throughout the year. If they wanted some extra challenges during their week off then they could complete 'Soundcheck' on Times Tables Rockstars or 'Maths Frame', (link below) which are very similar to the actual multiplication check.
Parking
Thank you to those of you who walk, scoot and cycle to school when you can. Please remember that if you do need to come to school by car, you are not permitted to park on the school safety zone markings or on the double yellow lines.
School has no control over the parking arrangements off site but we do expect all of our families to follow the laws which are there to keep our children safe.
We have had several complaints from local residents who have reported some of our parents and carers for blocking their access, walking across their gardens and even climbing over fences. Please show respect and thought for people in our community when you park.
Remember, we have access to the Park and Ride. We are hopeful that the path from the facility to school will be completed soon and we have not given up asking for this... However, if you allow some extra time, it is still accessible via the pavements on the other side of the road and there are safe places to cross.
Learning Gallery
Have a look at everything which has been going on over the past four weeks in school.
