HSC Written Timetable
The HSC written exam timetable has been released by NESA. Year 12 students can access their personal timetable by logging into Students Online.
To login to Students Online, follow the instructions below:
- Go to https://studentsonline.nesa.nsw.edu.au/login
- Enter your student number and PIN: If you've forgotten the PIN, reset it using the link under the login box; If you've forgotten their student number, use the forgot student number link and enter your school email address; If you are still having issues logging in, talk to the Head Teacher Secondary Studies. You can email Jessica using this email address: jessica.scarcella2@det.nsw.edu.au

Guest Poet Talk at Finigan
This week, Merlinda Bobis, a Filipino-Australian poet who lectures at ANU will be talking to us about her famous poem, This is where it begins, studied by many current HSC students around the state. If you are studying or have studied poetry this year, this would be a great opportunity to get insight into the craft of a practising Canberra-based poet.

Do it For Dolly Day 2025
Do It For Dolly Day is a national campaign, dedicated to raising awareness and funds for Dolly's Dream, an anti-bullying charity. At the beginning of 2018, the country was devastated by the untimely death of 14 year old Dolly Everett who took her own life after an extended period of bullying and cyber-bullying. Inspired by her spirit and fuelled by hope, Dolly's parents set out on a mission to create a kinder, safer world for every child.
When you GO BLUE, you are doing more then wearing Dolly's favourite colour. You are helping to raise awareness and funds to support the vital work of Dolly's Dream, and spread the message that no child or family should have to face the devastating impact of bullying alone.
Join us on Friday the 9th May and GO BLUE to help raise awareness. If you would like to donate, you can do so via the link below or the QR codes found on the posters around the school.
2025 NSW Premier's Reading Challenge
The 2025 NSW Premier's Reading Challenge has been extended.
The Challenge aims to encourage a love of reading for leisure and pleasure in students, and to enable them to experience quality literature. It is not a competition but a challenge to each student to read, to read more and to read more widely. The Premier's Reading Challenge (PRC) is open to all NSW students in Kindergarten to Year 10, in government, independent, Catholic and home schools.
We have extended both the student and coordinator deadlines for public and non-government students to allow additional time for challenge completion.

- Challenge opens: Monday 24 February 2025
- Challenge closes to students: Extended to Friday 19 September 2025 (Week 9, Term 3)
What Matters? – Writing Competition
Inspired by Gough Whitlam's commitment to involving young people in shaping Australia's future, the What Matters? Writing Competition is now in its 21st year and seeks to hear from children on what they care about the most: from climate change to mental health to video games and relationships with friends and families.
Whatever the issue is, the Whitlam Institute is inviting young people in Years 5–12 to express themselves through their writing and to share their ideas and thoughts in 600 words or less.
What you need to know:
- Competition is now open until May 16, 2025
- Entries can be in the form of prose, non-fiction, poetry, or essay
- Free to enter here for years 5-12, at home or school
- There are great prizes including a $1500 cash prize, book packs from Allen and Unwin, and money-can’t-buy experiences, like shadowing journalists at Parliament House, or hosting a virtual author visit at your school.

eSafety Parents & Carers Webinars: Term 2
The eSafety Commissioner has some free webinars coming up to give parents and carers the knowledge, skills and tools to support their children to have safe online experiences.

Parental controls can be a useful addition to the strategies you use to help protect your child online. Parental controls can help keep children and young people by preventing access to harmful content, managing time spent online and who they communicate with.

Sexual extortion: What parents & carers need to know
Sexual extortion or ‘sextortion’ is a form of blackmail where someone threatens to share a nude or sexual image or video of a person unless their demands are met.
Sexual extortion is a serious, growing online concern, especially for young people. But what exactly is it? What conversations may help prevent it and how can you support your child if they’re targeted?
This 30-minute webinar will explain:
- what sexual extortion is
- the impacts and potential harms sexual extortion may have on young people
- strategies to support young people who may experience sexual extortion, including how to respond and access support; and how to encourage safer and more positive online interactions.

Resources for Students
The Importance of a USI - A Unique Student Identifier (USI) is a student’s education number for life. All students undertaking nationally recognised training such as VET or a First Aid course, must have a USI to get their certificate. Higher education students need it to access a Commonwealth Supported Place, HELP loans and to graduate. Students can create their USI in under 5 minutes using their ID.
