Week 7 - term 2a

In PSHE we have given some thought to being calm in body and spirit and took part in a yoga session.

We did our best to mimic the poses shown on the screen.

Some of the poses were quite tricky!

In Science, we designed an experiment to understand water resistance. We made 2 boats from card and paper but covered one in plastic to see which would be impacted less by water resistance.

We used origami to help us build the boats from a single piece of paper.

It was quite tricky folding the card!

We predicted that the boats with a plastic covered base would have less water resistance, therefore travel across the water more quickly.

We tried to keep it a fair test by using the same sized boats, the same volume of water and the distance the boats had to travel the same.

We found that most boats covered in plastic moved through the water more quickly. We all agreed there were some improvements which could be made to the experiment.

We played a couple of games of Blooket this week too.

Katie came into school and taught us about the work Parliament carry out. She described the roles of MPs and Lords, how bills and laws are created and how the UK is a democracy.

It was really interesting to find out about what goes on in the Houses of Parliament.

In DT, we created a recipe for our version of vegetarian spahpghetti bolognaise. We peeled, chopped and cooked a number of vegetables to make our sauce.

We were super careful when using the vegetable peelers and knives.

The sauces smelled delicious.

We had to, of course, test our sauces and feedback about what we liked and could improve about them.

We all agreed they were delicious!

There were a lot of happy children!

We also designed the labels which could be used on the packaging of our sauces.

We were also lucky enough to take part in the “So Unfair” STEM roadshow.

We were tasked with making a structure strong enough that the presenter could stand on. All we could use was tape and card tubes.

It was so much fun!

In Computing, we continued our work on stop animation. We made characters out of paper and Blu-Tac before taking still pictures of them.

It’s a slow process but so much fun!

Some of us chose to make an animation about the use of palm oil and how it isn’t good for the world.

Maths this week saw us taking part in solving some problems.

We also got the chance to develop our own problems and test them out on our friends.

Our focus in English this week was on report writing, we focussed on animals who call the Amazon Rainforest home and who face extinction.

There was some fantastic independent writing.

We ended the week by watching the film Holes. Most of the class have read the book this half term so it was a lovely way to round of a busy half term.
