The group of commercials featured here to help you learn about Motion Graphics Animation are those that are fully animated. This means that just everything that you will see in the commercial is animated – the backgrounds, the characters, and the products as well for one or more of them. Watch and learn.
Angel Soft Toilet Paper
This Angel Soft Toilet Paper commercial is only 15 seconds long, but it provides us with a lot of information. The ad lets us know what the product is, and how it differs from other kinds of toilet paper. As a fully animated ad, it also includes animated, angelic characters to promote the product. You can notice that there is lots of movement. It doesn’t look stagnant or slow. There are soft colors, and light music playing softly in the background. The appearance and the sound of the ad (including the voice of the commercial’s narrator) are consistent with the name of the product. Can you tell if the animation in this ad is traditional or CGI-animated?
Kroger Grocery Stores
There are some people who do not realize that grocery store chains mostly operate regionally, meaning there are different stores that are located in different parts of the country. For instance, Fry’s Food and Drug stores are located in Phoenix, Arizona, while some Safeway grocery stores can be found in the Washington, DC area. However, when I looked online, Safeway stores are based and found mostly out west in the state of California. H-E-B grocery stores are based in San Antonio, Texas but (until a few years ago) when you would go to places like Dallas, you would most likely shop at a Minyard grocery store. Then there are Walmart Supercenters which operate nationwide. Kroger (not Krogers with an s as some people incorrectly say) is located in Texas and also in the Atlanta area in Georgia. Their latest commercials have been fully animated and have also featured popular music. This ad has music from the song “Low” by Flo Rida and T-Pain. The lyrics to the song are – Apple Bottom jeans/Boots with the fur/The whole club was lookin' at her/She hit the floor, next thing you know/Shawty got low, low, low, low, low, low, low, low. The creators of this ad also designed the animated characters to visually show how they got low in time with the music supposedly in the same way that the prices to the items at the store dropped lower. Very creative.
Grub Hub Delivery Service
This commercial was featured in a previous Motion Graphics Animation lesson. It is a fully CGI-animated commercial and includes music from a Colombian band named Bomba Estéreo with Costa Rican child star Sarai Gonzalez. The song titled “Soy Yo” is a Grammy and Latin Grammy-nominated hit from their album Amanecer.
MiraLAX
MiraLAX is an over-the-counter laxative that is used to treat occasional constipation in adults. This short ad is actually not fully animated. The first second or two is real, then it turns into a live-action/animated hybrid ad. But I included it because the animated portion is traditionally animated. It is designed to give the look and the feeling of being relieved from discomfort, which is what the product claims to do. The colors were also seemingly chosen to appeal to a mature viewer. According to the commercial’s narrator, this product works with the water in your body to relieve your gut. Also, the company visually implies that when this happens, you will feel like an older Black woman who suddenly feels like riding a skateboard down the street to the park to spend time with friends. Overwhelming relief.
Puffs Plus Lotion Tissue
First, I’d just like to point out that at the very beginning of this commercial, you can hear the little girl release a horrible sounding sneeze that signals a problem to her dad. Also, lots of people will admit that by the time this fully CGI-animated ad gets to the part where there is a split screen for a comparison of this brand with another brand of tissue, it looks like everything you see is real! But remember, dear aspiring animators. It is all an illusion. It is a fantastical illusion of movement. In this commercial, we hear voice-over narration, audio as music, of course there are animated characters, and we see text graphics. There are also special effects in this ad. Can you guess what the special effects are used to show? At the end, we also notice that the narrator says it is America’s number 1 lotion tissue. Interesting.
