Personalized Learning in Reading and Math

Supporting Student Learning Through Innovative Tools

At Otselic Valley Central School District, students in kindergarten through eighth grade are using IXL, an online learning platform that supports personalized skill development in reading and math.

IXL allows students to practice skills at their own pace through targeted, interactive activities. The program adapts to each student’s needs by providing real-time feedback and adjusting practice based on performance, helping to strengthen foundational skills while building confidence.

Students begin with brief diagnostic “snapshot” assessments that identify areas where additional support may be needed. Based on these results, IXL provides activities that target specific skill areas and reinforce classroom instruction. In the elementary grades, students often use IXL during station time as part of their regular learning routine.

Diagnostic Tools to Support Learning

For educators, IXL includes reporting tools that provide insights into student progress. Teachers can use this information to guide instruction, support individual learners, and meet the diverse needs of students across the classroom.

IXL is one of the tools Otselic Valley uses to support student learning and strengthen foundational skills in reading and math. The district is also exploring expanded use of IXL in high school math next year.
