Special Moments & Partnerships 🫂

Bishop Jim Schuerman distributes ashes at the Adult Day Center on Ash Wednesday

From our Chaplain

Recently, our Chaplain Bishop Schuerman explained and reflected in a video series how Pope Leo’s papal exhortation Dilexi Te (translated “I have loved you”) directs followers to love, care for, and serve the poor just like the mission of Catholic Charities. Packing self-care kits with Sheboygan North High School students

A wonderful day of service and compassion. Students at Sheboygan North High School joined outreach case manager, Joanna, to assemble personal care kits for neighbors in need throughout Sheboygan County. Neighbors helping neighbors through holiday giving

We are still feeling the warmth of the generosity from local parishes, parishioners, organizations and supporters. The holidays were brighter for so many individuals and families we serve. Thank you to everyone for making this season so special.

A meaningful collaboration with United Way Dodge County

Our Beaver Dam Outreach Case Manager, Tracey, worked alongside our partners at United Way Dodge County to organize tree tags for a Christmas giveaway. This was made possible by a local business that chose to support multiple community agencies instead of hosting an internal employee holiday exchange.

Community connections in Racine County

Community involvement in action! Our staff member Laura Martinez, also a City of Racine Public Health Department board member, joined leaders, students, and neighbors to sign the final beam of Racine’s new Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center and Health Clinic. Like Catholic Charities, the center will bring access to critical resources and help eliminate barriers to care with culturally sensitive bilingual services. It was a special opportunity to be part of such a meaningful project that will benefit neighbors in Racine County for years to come.

Barb Graham – Helping our staff and the Milwaukee community navigate current issues in immigration

In recent months, several schools, parishes and community organizations have reached out to Barb requesting guidance on how to support the immigrant and refugee families in their communities. In addition to holding a session with our staff, Barb has given several presentations for faculty and leadership of Cristo Rey, MUHS, DSHA, Marquette University, and held sessions at the Archdiocese of Milwaukee for pastors and parishioners.

Barb helps participants understand the complexity of immigration law, individual rights, and the current administration’s interpretation and practices. She also offers practical guidance to help families prepare in the event of detention or deportation – from organizing essential documents to planning for the care of children, elders, and even pets.

Community Mental Health Team Meeting

“Our team of therapists serves clients in eight different locations, so time together is valued. In January, the team gathered for professional development focused on strengthening our skills in assessing and responding to clients experiencing significant emotional distress. The team was able to practice asking essential questions and gained valuable experience in this important area of care." "Once the learning was done, we were able to focus on learning more about and connecting with each other. We did this with a potluck where everyone was asked to bring a dish that connected with their heritage or childhood memories. The food was delicious and let us all share a piece of ourselves with each other.” — Liz Schuett-Davison, Director of Community Mental Health
