Principals MESSAGE
Hello Families,
Welcome to 2026 and what is sure to be another huge year at Dungog PS!
It has been great to get back to school and see so many happy, smiling and engaged kids back inside the fences. The playground has been very settled and as I have dropped into classes I have been impressed with the way our kids have come back Respectful, Responsible and giving their Personal Best.
Last week saw our first big event of the year get ticked off with our Swimming Carnival. Although the weather didn't necessarily give its personal best, our kids swam, cheered and participated in everything that was on offer. I must thank all the staff who invested so much effort in planning and making the day such a success. There were definitely some tired grown ups heading home Friday afternoon.
As we settle into the year it is usually a good time to send out a reminder about all those yearly check ups. In particular, eye and hearing checks. It is really important to stay on top of these as a lot can change in 12 months as our kids grow and change. Regularly getting these things checked will mean any areas of need get picked up early and we can make sure to support them.
Thank you to those families who have been working with us as we get our External Provider processes locked in and up and running for 2026. We have been making a few changes to keep in line with Department of Education Policy updates and appreciate your support. We are working behind the scenes on some flowcharts and organisational tools which we will share when they are finalised.
Keep your eyes on Facebook and Sentral as information about a number of school programs and events will be coming home on a regular basis and is a great first port of call for information.
Looking forward to a great year.

EARLY STAGE 1 & STAGE 1 NEWS
KP with Miss Petersen
Kindergarten have had a fabulous start to school and we are so proud of how well they are settling into their new routines. Students have been busy learning, making new friends and getting to know our school and classroom expectations. In English, students are developing their Phonemic Awareness (listening to and identifying the sounds in words to support early reading and spelling) through fun, hands-on activities. In Mathematics, students are learning correct number formations, exploring 2D shapes and practising how to find the total amount of a group of objects using concrete materials and counting strategies. Kindergarten have also enjoyed CAPA through dance and music, moving to a beat and expressing themselves creatively. In Science, we have started learning all about living things and what they need to grow. In PDHPE, our focus has been on “Who am I?” and learning how to be a good friend by sharing, taking turns and showing kindness. Alongside all of this learning, students have been working hard to understand and demonstrate our school values of Respect, Responsibility and doing their Personal Best. It has been a wonderful start to the year and I can’t wait to see the growth Kindergarten will make this term.
1G with Miss gregory
1G have had a great start to the year. We have jumped straight into our English, learning all about adjectives in grammar and practising our writing on mini whiteboards. 1G have been learning different ways to complete Addition equations. We also looked at the life cycle of a human in Science and discussed ways living things change over time. 1G have been practicing their PBL expectations: Respect, Responsibility and Personal Best. We have also been looking at what makes good friendships in PDHPE and how to use the Zones of Regulation. I can't wait to see the learning and growth 1G will continue to complete this term!
1N with MRs NAsh
1N have had an amazing start to the year! All were very excited to explore their new classroom and make new friends. We have dived straight into learning, learning all about adjectives in grammar to add details to our sentences and working on our counting on and counting back strategies to add and subtract in Mathematics. 1N have been working on demonstrating our PBL expectations in all areas of the school by showing Respect, Responsibility and Personal Best. Keep working hard 1N and I can't wait to see the progress you make throughout the term!
release from face to face with Mrs Long, Miss Donnelly & Mrs Windebank
Welcome everyone to our first newsletter for 2026. This year Miss Donnelly, Mrs Windebank and Mrs Long are the RFF teachers for the school. This of course means that we will be moving around the school to different classes teaching a variety of subjects from Mathematics Daily Reviews, some Science, some History and even CAPA to some stages. We are looking forward to seeing lots of faces as we travel through the school. Have a great week everyone.

Welcome to an exciting start to the school year! We have settled in beautifully and are already busy with our learning. In English, we are continuing to develop our Phonics knowledge and are using these skills to help us write clear and confident sentences. In Mathematics, we are exploring two and three-digit numbers, building our understanding of place value and number patterns. In History with Mrs Long, we are learning about “The Way Things Used to Be,” comparing the past and present and discovering how life has changed over time. In PDHPE, we are focusing on friendships, discussing how to be kind, respectful and supportive classmates. In Science, we are investigating living things and learning about what they need to grow and survive. We also had a wonderful time at our Swimming Carnival and were so proud of everyone’s enthusiasm and participation. What a fantastic start to the year for Barrangga! Our class has settled into school life with ease and are ready to take on all that 2026 has in store. We’ve been revising key learning from last year and going over our PBL expectations while setting up our new classroom. Barrangga dived into Mathematics and English headfirst and have already shown that they are ready to embrace new challenges. We’ve also started brainstorming exciting activities for our upcoming visit to Lara Aged Care at the end of the term. I can't wait to see our class start smashing goals this term!

Welcome to Class 2J! I’m looking forward to teaching your child this year and working together to support their learning and growth. Home learning tasks will be sent home shortly, so please keep an eye out for those and help your child complete them each week. Please also make sure students bring a drink bottle every day, as staying hydrated helps them stay focused and ready to learn. 3M with Mrs Morgan
I am absolutely thrilled to be teaching 3M this year, and they are off to an amazing start! Students have set personal goals and small steps have already been taken as they work towards achieving them. It has been inspiring to see students showing a positive attitude towards their learning and each other, as well as demonstrating our school values: Respect, Responsibility and Personal Best, both in the classroom and playground. On Mondays, students have Mrs Long for Maths and Personal Development/Health, and on Tuesday mornings they have English with her for one hour. We have many exciting opportunities planned so far, including Gymnastics for sport this term, trials for sporting teams, a visit to Lara Aged Care on Thursday 5th March, and our Canberra trip later in the year. I’m looking forward to having a wonderful year teaching, instilling a love of learning and taking on new challenges with 3M! Please do not hesitate to contact me through the school office if you have any questions or concerns at any stage throughout the year.
3E with miss Maytom
What a fantastic start to the term! It’s been lovely getting to know the students in 3E and helping everyone settle back into classroom routines. As leaders of the school, Stage 3 students have big responsibilities and 3E is already showing they’re ready for the challenge. Learning is in full swing! We’ve started daily reviews and our exciting novel study, Nanberry. On Thursdays, 3E spend time with Mrs Long and on Fridays, they enjoy Science with Miss Donnelly. Spending time with different teachers is a wonderful way for students to make new connections, experience new perspectives and strengthen friendships. We all really enjoyed the Swimming Carnival, it was a great chance to compete, connect with friends and enjoy some games. There are also several sport trials happening over the next few weeks—so much to look forward to! Don’t forget to save the date for school photos on Wednesday, March 11th. Here’s to a term full of learning, growth, and fun!
3b with Miss Blissett
Welcome back to school for 2026! We have an exciting year ahead of us with our big Canberra excursion, opportunities to participate in school teams and PSSA sports, and plenty of learning in between. Over the last two weeks we have been busy setting classroom routines, getting to know each other and beginning our Term 1 units of work. In English, we have been developing our skills in using engaging synonyms to enhance our writing. In Mathematics, we have been working on our Daily Review each lesson. We have been getting faster and faster at recalling whole number facts which form the basis of Mathematics. 3B are excited to have Mrs Long as their RFF Teacher, she will teach the Science on Friday morning as well as Miss Donnelly who will come in for an hour on Thursday mornings. I'm so excited to continue to get to know all the students and their families and see what amazing things the year brings.
Library/STEM with miss donnellY
Welcome back! It's 2026 and we are ready to rock this! The library is getting ready for a bigger and better year. Students have been eagerly borrowing books from the shelves to enjoy in their classrooms, while some have been making suggestions on what should join our collection. Miss Donnelly loves hearing what students are enjoying to read. Don't forget to read your Book Club catalougue. It has some fantastic reads that students of all ages will enjoy. As for STEM sadly the podcasting kit has gone off to another school. Students are very sad about this but have requested it come back if possible. On that note an old favourite has returned again with Miss Donnelly being able to get the 3D printers for Terms 1 and 2. Keep an ear out for messages about when you can come and learn all about how 3D printers work! We've also had the return of the Lego Robotics, another favourite and students will start to see that trickle into the library over the next few weeks.
