Principally Speaking
I’m proud to share that this six weeks we met our goal of 96% attendance, finishing at 96.6% for the 5th six weeks! 🎉Let’s finish strong during these last 5 weeks of school! Please continue encouraging students to wash their hands frequently and practice good hygiene to help keep everyone healthy. Congratulations to our classroom winners listed below with the highest attendance rates for the 5th six weeks. They enjoyed their snack prizes earlier this week! 👏Individual attendance brag tags were also distributed to students with attendance rates of 93% or higher (no more than 2 absences). Now that attendance percentages have reset, I’m confident we’ll see even more students earning incentives this final grading period! Time sure is flying. Let’s keep the momentum going. We still have one more STAAR exam, end-of-year evaluations, Spanish Avant testing, and many exciting activities ahead. Let’s stay focused and finish strong! One, Team! One Goal!

Child Abuse Prevention Month
April is recognized nationwide as Child Abuse Prevention Month. During this time, schools and communities work together to raise awareness about the importance of protecting children and creating safe, supportive environments for them to grow and thrive. One of the goals of this month is to remind families that prevention begins with open communication, education, and strong relationships between children and trusted adults. Talking with children about personal body safety is an important step in helping prevent child abuse. While these conversations can sometimes feel uncomfortable, they empower children with knowledge and confidence so they know how to keep themselves safe and when to ask for help.
Here are a few simple tips for talking with your child about body safety:
1. Teach Proper Names for Body Parts Using correct names for body parts helps children clearly communicate if something is wrong and reduces confusion or shame. 2. Explain Body Boundaries Help children understand that their body belongs to them. No one should touch the parts of their body covered by a swimsuit unless it is to help keep them healthy (like a doctor with a parent present). 3. Talk About Safe and Unsafe Touch Explain that safe touches help keep us healthy or show care (like a hug from a trusted family member), while unsafe touches make us feel uncomfortable, confused, or hurt. 4. Encourage Them to Speak Up Let your child know it is always okay to say “no,” “stop,” or “I need to tell my parents/teacher.” Remind them they will not get in trouble for telling a trusted adult if something makes them feel uncomfortable. 5. Identify Trusted Adults Help your child name 3–5 trusted adults they can talk to if they ever feel unsafe or worried. 6. Keep the Conversation Ongoing Body safety talks should not happen just once. Short, calm conversations over time help children feel comfortable asking questions and sharing concerns. Talking to your child about personal body safety is an important step to preventing child abuse. It not only provides them with needed information, but also promotes healthy development, increases self-esteem, and fosters a positive relationship between you and your child.

We are going to take the next several weeks to focus on some sustainable and recyclable projects for the school. The first one will be The Crayon Initiative. While you are at home for Spring Break, gather up all those broken, discarded, unloved crayons and bag them up. We will get them sorted and send them off to a company that will melt them into new crayons to donate to Children's Hospitals all over the US. Help us get rid of waste and learn to help others as well. The attached flyer tells more. Be watching for a sign up for ways to help.
