We have now reached the end of a very successful term at Randwick. I would like to thank all of our staff and community who have supported our first term of teaching and learning as one large combined high school serving 1512 students.
Highlights of the second half of the term have included success in the sporting arena, participation in the performing arts and some wonderful teaching and learning initiatives. Preparations for The Show are in full force and our new music ensemble program has expanded to include pop band and string ensemble. We have competed in more than a dozen sports as part of the CHS competition and enjoyed a year 7 gala day to cap off the term. With 21 participants at the State Swimming Carnival, we are also proud to celebrate multiple podium finishes including a first place in the 200m individual medley.
In this last week, the school has launched a number of new traditions, further strengthening our new community. Our recent Harmony Day celebrations included a very moving Welcome to Country delivered by Uncle Les, who spoke of the history of our land, language and the importance of the Three Ls: Looking, Listening and Learning. We took this as our motto for the day and celebrated presentations and performances from a wide range of cultures.
The SRC have been working hard to deliver a range of programs for students. This included a community fundraiser and mufti day to celebrate Easter. They have worked together to host numerous ceremonies including our ANZAC Day commemoration today.
Lastly, I bid farewell to two staff who are embarking on new journeys- as a school community we thank Susan Thorne and Matthew Hourcade who have served our community with great dedication for more than a decade each. Whilst we will miss them immensely, we wish them well in their new roles and settings.
Wishing you all a safe and restful school holiday break.
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
One of the highlights of the term was our Harmony Day celebration, where students and staff came together to celebrate the cultural diversity that enriches our school community. The day was filled with engaging performances and classroom activities that encouraged inclusion, respect, and understanding. It was wonderful to see our students embrace the spirit of the day so wholeheartedly.
This term, we commemorated ANZAC Day with a school ceremony on Friday. It was a meaningful occasion where students gathered to reflect on the service and sacrifice of Australian and New Zealand soldiers. We were proud of the respect shown by our students during this solemn event, as it provided a valuable moment for remembrance and reflection.
Earlier this term, we held Parent Teacher Interviews for Year 11 and 12 students. These meetings provided an important opportunity for families to discuss academic progress, set goals, and strengthen the partnership between home and school. We appreciate the engagement and valuable conversations that took place during this time.
Year 8 students engaged in the Mancave and Enlighten wellbeing programs this term. These programs aim to support students in developing important life skills, fostering emotional resilience, and promoting positive mental health as they navigate their adolescent years.
Additionally, all Year 7-11 students have received their assessment booklets this term. These booklets outline important dates and assessment requirements, and we encourage students to manage their time effectively as they work through their assessments. We are pleased with the dedication students have shown in their preparations, and we encourage them to continue working hard and seeking support when needed.
In addition, our Year 11 students participated in the My Futures Program this term. This program was designed to help students explore career pathways, identify their strengths, and develop the skills they need to plan for life beyond school. It was a valuable experience for our students as they begin to make decisions about their future.
Looking ahead to Week 1 of next term, we are excited about the Randwick school show at NIDA, an incredible opportunity for our students to showcase their talents in a professional setting. We can’t wait to see the performances and celebrate their hard work.
As we move into Term 2, a reminder to all students to ensure they are wearing the correct school uniform, including appropriate footwear and accessories. Maintaining a consistent uniform standard helps promote school pride and unity.
Thank you for your continued support throughout Term 1. I wish everyone a relaxing and restful break.
Kind regards, Ms Reilly Deputy Principal (Years 8 and 11)
School Absence Notification System
Regular attendance at school is essential to assist students to maximise their potential. At Randwick High School, we must ensure our school has effective measures in place to monitor and follow up students absences. We are required under Section 22 of the Education Act (1990) to undertake all reasonable measures to contact parents promptly and within two school days of absence. We have implemented additional measures to ensure we are upholding the NSW Department of Education standards here at Randwick High School. Our school absence notification system consists of a text message, follow up email and Sentral notification in the parent portal, to minimise unexplained absences. An absence is unexplained if parents have failed to provide an explanation to the school within 7 days. Thank you for your understanding and assistance.
