2025 NATIONAL CHAMPIONS
The 2025 TCU Horned Frogs reached the pinnacle of the collegiate beach volleyball world by claiming the program's first ever National Championship.
In the regular season, TCU posted a 29-5 record and won the inaugural Big 12 Championship. This success earned them the No. 2 overall seed entering the postseason.
Upon arrival in Gulf Shores, the Frogs swept No. 15 Georgia State in straight sets to advance to the NCAA Quarterfinals, where they took down No. 7 Texas in a sweep.
In order to advance to the National Championship, TCU took down No. 6 Cal Poly, 3-1, to put the program in position for its first ever national title.
In the National Championship, the Frogs were able to take down No. 4 LMU in a thrilling, 3-2, victory. TCU saw victories by Anhelina Khmil and Ana Vergara and Sofia Izuzquiza and Allanis Navas. In a storybook ending, the Olympians, Daniela Alvarez and Tania Moreno clinched the match and the Championship for the Frogs.
With the win, TCU became the first team other than USC or UCLA to claim the National Championship.
HOME COURT ADVANTAGE
TCU has won 60 straight matches at home dating back to 2020.
CONFERENCE DOMINANCE
TCU has won three consecutive conference titles in three different conferences, the CCSA, CUSA and Big 12. In the innagural season of Big 12 Beach Volleyball in 2025, the Frogs did not fall to a conference foe en route to the crown.
Thanks to its dominance, TCU headlined the conference's yearly awards. Anhelina Khmil and Ana Vergara garnered Big 12 Pair of the Year honors, followed by Sofia Izuzquiza as the Big 12's Freshman of the Year. Head Coach Hector Gutierrez was named Big 12 Coach of the Year, and six Frogs claimed a spot on the all-conference team.
TCU now has won four conference Pair of the Year awards, four Freshman of the year Honors and Gutierrez has claimed three Coach of the Year accolades. In addition, the Frogs have earned 20 all-conference citations.
BEST IN TEXAS
TCU is the first school from Texas to qualify for the NCAA Tournament and the first to win a match in the NCAA Tournament. The Frogs are also the first team from Texas to win a National Championship.
The Frogs are 42-0 all time against Texas schools.

TCU has had eight players named All-American, all in the past five seasons: Daniela Alvarez (2021, 2022, 2023 and 2025), Hailey Brocket (2021), Olivia Blackburn (2021), Hailey Hamlett (2024, 2025), Anhelina Khmil (2024), Kaylie McHugh (2022), Sutton MacTavish (2024), Tania Moreno (2021, 2022, 2023 and 2025)
OLYMPIANS
Daniela Alvarez and Taania Moreno are TCU's first Olympians in beach volleyball.
HEAD COACH HECTOR GUTIERREZ
Hector Gutierrez was named head coach of the TCU Beach Volleyball program on November 9, 2016.
In his nine seasons at the helm, Gutierrez has built the Horned Frogs into a powerhouse on the national stage. TCU has claimed three consecutive conference championships and in 2025 became the first school other than UCLA or USC to win the NCAA Beach Volleyball National Championship. In addition, Gutierrez has overseen the development of multiple high-level players who have been recognized on both the national and international stage.
The 2025 season was the culmination of years of work as TCU broke through and claimed its first National Championship. The Horned Frogs swept their first two matches of the NCAA Tournament before taking down No. 6 Cal Poly to advance to the National Title. In the final, the Frogs were able to upend No. 4 LMU, 3-2, to become the first program other than USC and UCLA to be at the top of the sport.
The Big 12 celebrated its inaugural season of Beach Volleyball in 2025. TCU made a resounding statement by earning the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament, and it went on to win its third consecutive conference crown, this time under the Big 12 banner.
The Horned Frogs were a fixture in the top five of the AVCA Coaches’ Poll throughout the entire season, never falling below No. 5 in any edition. The team also excelled against elite competition, posting a 23-5 record against ranked opponents.
ASSISTANT COACH SARAH MARMELSTEIN
Sarah Mamelstein, a highly accomplished professional player and 2020 Tokyo Olympian, joined the TCU beach volleyball staff as an assistant coach in July of 2025 and enters her first season with the Horned Frogs.
Marmelstein, formerly Sponcil, has had a multitude of experiences on both the national and international stage, both in indoor and beach volleyball.
Her accomplishments in the sand are highlighted by her appearance at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games on behalf of Team USA. Alongside her partner Kelly Claes the duo made history as the youngest beach volleyball team to ever represent the United States at the Olympics.
At 24, Marmelstein was also the second-youngest beach volleyball player to ever represent the Red, White and Blue at the Olympic Games.
Her accomplishments don’t stop there, as she also won gold at the AVP Hermosa Beach Open, the FIVB Ostrava Beach Open and the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour.
Thanks to her success on the AVP Tour in 2022, she was named Defensive Player of the Year, as voted on by her peers.
She competed collegiately for both Loyola Marymount and UCLA, and during her time with the Bruins she became a two-time National Champion in 2018 and 2019.
With UCLA, she was an All-American and Pair of the Year recipient in 2018. She also competed in indoor volleyball, ranking third in the country in total assists in 2018.
ASSISTANT COACH DANIEL LINDSEY
Daniel Lindsey has been with the Horned Frogs for the last seven seasons and has served as an since the 2023-24 season.
With Lindsey on staff, TCU has won a National Championship, three conference championships and earned five NCAA Championship appearances. The Frogs have had 15 All-American selections and two Olympians.
