Meet the Staff

What people are saying about newly hired Head Coach Trevor Johnson

"Congratulations on a fantastic hire. Trevor is an alum, a great coach, a leader, and a man of faith. This is a perfect fit," remarked Pittsburgh Head Coach Dan Fisher, who worked with Coach Johnson at Concordia Irvine.
"Trevor Johnson is a great coach and a wonderful person. He has the gift of inspiring and empowering his players, and he's extremely good at giving correction to his athletes without causing resentment. I personally loved coaching with Trevor. What a great hire for CBU, and congratulations to Coach Johnson and the CBU volleyball program," said former Texas A&M Head Coach Laurie Corbelli.

Head Coach Trevor Johnson

My vision for this program is to make this the greatest Christian Volleyball experience in the country! We are looking to do something special here at CBU and we are trying to create a legacy that reflects both our values and our love for the game. We want to win a lot and give God the glory.

California Baptist University has announced the hiring of Trevor Johnson as the 14th Head Coach of women's volleyball. The Cerritos, California native will be returning to California after spending the past season as an assistant coach at the University of Georgia.

"Lancer Nation is excited to welcome home Coach Trevor Johnson," said Vice President for Athletics Dr. Micah Parker. "Trevor is a fit for our mission of Honoring Christ Through Excellence in Athletics and his experience of recruiting at the highest level will be invaluable to our program."

The return to Riverside will be familiar territory for coach Johnson, who spent four seasons on the Lancer men's volleyball team and received his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology in 2005 from CBU. Johnson was a four-year starter who helped the Lancers win back-to-back NAIA National Championships in 2004 and 2005. Johnson racked up 3,820 assists for CBU and was the NAIA National Championships assists leader from 2003 to 2004. Johnson was also an assistant coach at CBU from 2007-2009 and from 2010-2011, compiling a 127-39 record for the men's and women's programs. As a coach for the Lancers, Johnson helped lead the men to the 2011 NAIA title and guided the women to the NAIA National semifinals in 2008.

"I am incredibly excited and humbled to accept this opportunity at CBU," remarked Johnson. "CBU's values align closely with my own and I am looking forward to contributing to a culture of excellence and faith. My goal is to inspire our athletes to grow in their athletic abilities while also nurturing their character and faith. My family and I are excited to be coming home. I want to thank President Dr. Ronald L. Ellis and Vice President for Athletics Dr. Micah Parker for this tremendous opportunity."

Assistant Coach Kimberly DeBoer

"We are thrilled to welcome Kimberly “Kimbo” DeBoer as our new assistant coach. Her energy, knowledge of the game, and dedication to player development will play a crucial role in supporting our program’s growth. We’re confident that she will make a positive impact on our team, bringing a fresh perspective and contributing to the success of our athletes both on the court and in their personal development."

Kimberly joined Coach Johnson's staff in March of 2025.

Coach DeBoer joined the Lancers program after a very successful four-year playing career at San Francisco State. DeBoer was instrumental in guiding the Gators to the DII National Championship game where they were the runners-up.

DeBoer was named AVCA All-American Second Team and AVCA and D2CCA All-West Region First Team, 3x CCAA Setter of the Year, 3x All-CCAA First-Team, NCAA Championship All-Tournament Team, CSC Academic All-American Second Team during her senior season. DeBoer was the first player in program history to be named AVCA All-American Second Team, while playing in all 123 sets. DeBoer set the Gators new single-season record for assists in 2024 with 1,392 and finished her career with over 4,000 career assists. In 2023 she earned AVCA All-American Honorable Mention as well.

At SF State, DeBoer was also involved in the Student Athlete Advisory Committee with the role of President for three years. DeBoer was a recipient of the DII 50th Anniversary Scholarship and helped SF State SAAC earn the CCAA Community Service award two years in a row. The executive board also worked to create a Mental Wellness Campaign to promote awareness of mental health and wellness within the community. DeBoer was honored with the Gator Student Leadership Award from Student Life which recognized community engagement on campus. Since 2020, she also has been working with various volleyball clubs coaching teams and running clinics.

Prior to her career at SF State, DeBoer played high school volleyball at Murrieta Valley HS where she was the Press Enterprise Player of the Year in 2019, the CIF Southwestern League MVP, among many other accolades.
