Captains roundup

Hello and a belated Happy New Year to all.

We hope everyone enjoyed the festive period. The club has been busy over the winter and Patchway CC are powering towards the 2026 season. After announcing four new signings last month, I’m delighted to say we have added two more to the squad. First up, a warm welcome to Allan Cotterell. Allan is an extremely canny bowler and a former captain of Filton Wayfarers. He has also represented Bradley Stoke, Abbotts Leigh and Old Down, and comes to us with bucketfuls of wickets to his name. We’re very much looking forward to seeing him add to that tally in Patchway colours. We also welcome Scott Rose to the club. Scott is returning to the game after a few years away, having previously played for Upton St Leonards in the Gloucestershire League during Andy Ridley’s time there. He brings an attacking batting option to the club, which we’re excited to see this season. It’s great to be welcoming so many new players to the club, and we’re hopeful of adding a few more as we move through our winter nets programme. Nets have started extremely well, with unprecedented numbers attending the first two sessions. We’re keen to keep building on this momentum. I’ve also been able to watch the juniors training beforehand, and it’s fantastic to see so much ability coming through. A reminder that senior nets take place on Sundays at 15:30 at Henbury Leisure Centre – please come along if you can. A few further updates from around the club. Hangar 61, which has replaced the old social club, is making excellent progress. This will be a state-of-the-art darts centre and sports bar, and it’s shaping up to be a great facility for us after matches. I’ve been in regular contact with the owner and hope to catch up with Steve shortly, so will update everyone again soon.

We’re also looking at some social and fundraising ideas. If anyone has suggestions, please get in touch with the committee, with Jake hopefully announcing something soon. A couple of individual mentions:

  • Mike Reed is currently fundraising for the Injured Players Foundation and will be playing in a veterans’ tournament at Twickenham for St Mary’s. If you can spare a small donation, please consider sponsoring him using the button below.
  • Finally, best wishes to our spinner Ashray Shetty, who will shortly be returning to India to get married. He’ll be back in time for the start of the season.

A very positive start to 2026: strong player retention, quality new signings, well-attended nets, and pre-season games already booked. Up the Patch.

Winter nets

Patchway Cricket Club’s winter nets programme is now well underway as we build towards the 2026 season. Sessions are taking place every Sunday through to 8th March at Henbury Leisure Centre, offering a great opportunity for players of all ages and abilities to sharpen their skills, improve fitness, and stay connected with the club during the off-season. Session times are as follows:

  • Under 13s & Under 15s: 2:00 – 3:30pm
  • Seniors: 3:30 – 5:00pm

Each session costs £5, making it an accessible and enjoyable way to keep cricket going through the winter months. The positive atmosphere at the sessions so far is captured in the photos shared alongside this update. Whether you’re a regular member or new to the club, winter nets are a great chance to get involved — and friends are always welcome as we look ahead to the 2026 campaign.

Junior Update

We hope everyone has had a fantastic start to the New Year. Winter nets are off to a flying start — attendance is high, energy levels are up, and players are already showing real improvements in their skills. It’s been great to see so much enthusiasm across sessions so far. We have completed three sessions already, with five still to go before we move to our outdoor nets in March. Strong attendance and new recruitment have been really encouraging, and we hope this continues as we build towards the season ahead.

Teams & Training Schedule (from March 2026)

We’re pleased to confirm that our teams have now been submitted to the league, and we will be entering five teams this season. Training will continue on Monday and Tuesday evenings as follows:

Tuesday

  • 7.00–8.00pm – Under 15 Blues

We continue to use Spond for all training sessions and matchday information. A polite reminder to please keep availability updated as early as possible so coaches can plan sessions effectively. Thank you for your cooperation. Our Presentation Night in November was a great success, and we would like to congratulate the following players for their performances throughout the season (see photos below):

  • Casey Hull— U15’s Player of the year - Leading run scorer in the league with an average of 67.
  • Jack Holway Hall— U15’s Most improved player - Improved bowling performance accross the season.

  • Reggie Lansdown — U11’s Most Improved Player - Improved in all areas of the game.

We would like to thank all our coaches for their time, dedication, and commitment last season. Their continued support plays a vital role in the development and enjoyment of our junior players. A special thank you goes to Jason Gillet, who has stepped down from his coaching role with the Under 13s. Jason gave up his time on training nights and match days throughout last season and, together with Mark Pickering, led the team to the top of the league table, securing the league title. This was a fantastic achievement, and we are extremely grateful for Jason’s contribution to the team, the players, and the club.

Junior Committee – Get Involved

As our junior section continues to grow, we are keen to strengthen our Junior Committee and invite parents and carers to get involved. The committee supports our junior players by helping to organise events, assist with communication, support match days, and contribute ideas to help the section develop. No cricket experience is required — just a willingness to help and be part of a positive club community. Whether you can offer occasional support or take on a more active role, your involvement would make a real difference. If you’d like to find out more, please contact us at: PatchwayCCJuniors@outlook.com
