Reports, Proposals, and Guides

Cybersecurity Chapbooks

In 2023, I began writing a series of cybersecurity chapbooks about my experience of building an IT Security Program. To provide a candid and relatable resource for the benefit of other nonprofit professionals, the eBooks are conversational and lightly edited, and contain frank descriptions of the challenges I navigated. Excerpt from Response to RFP - B2B Commercial Behavioral Health Insurance

I wrote (and assembled from a proposal library I constructed from existing content) this winning sales proposal, as a member of the marketing department at Occupational Health Services (OHS), a family-owned managed behavioral health insurance company formerly located in Larkspur, California. OHS specialized in Employee Assistance Plans (EAPs) for corporate and government employers. It merged with its competitor Managed Health Network (MHN) in the late 1990s. I have removed all customer and proprietary information from the excerpt below. [Role: Writer | Editor | Coordinator] Year: 1994

Excerpt of Nonprofit Management Evaluation Report

I wrote this report excerpt after a five-month pro bono consulting project that I completed for 501 Commons, a Seattle-based nonprofit capacity building agency. All client information has been removed. [Roles: Consultant | Writer | Document Designer} Year: 2019

One Sheet Funding Proposal for Documentary Film Short

My work on this two-year film project included an extensive literature review, funding research, and proposal writing and editing. I co-authored and edited the excerpt below with director Mark Ravitz. The proposal sought to persuade qualified gay and lesbian nonprofits to provide 501(c)(3) umbrella status for the project. The film successfully received umbrella status from the Santa Barbara Gay and Lesbian Business Association. The short played at the 2013 OUTragious LGBTQ Film Festival in Santa Barbara to positive reviews. Soon afterward, the director decided not to continue with the proposed broadcast length version in order to pursue other projects. [Roles: Researcher | Copyeditor | Writer] Year: 2013

About the 501 Commons TechOE Program

Logo Design: Kai Dailey

Beyond developing our Tech Outreach and Education Program (TechOE), I repurposed a well-known but discontinued technology planning cohort program, Plan IT, and transformed it into an on-demand service for individual organizations. We completely reimagined the marketing, service and pricing levels, consultant training, and service delivery. We also expanded Plan IT to include cybersecurity and compliance planning, and created assessment tools for client use to support the new service scope.

501 Commons is a nonprofit capacity building 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Eight-five percent of its annual budget comes from the sales of professional services. The TechOE and Plan IT consulting brought in $116,000 in combined revenue during its first 11 months, a goodly sum for a pilot program!

The excerpt below is from the 501 Commons Annual Report describing the programs I founded, refreshed, and managed from 2023 to 2025. [Roles: Program Founder and Manager | IT Consultant | Chief Information Security Officer] Year: 2023 - 2025

A Thoughtful Thank You from 501 Commons...

In 2018-2019, I completed five pro bono consulting projects on behalf of 501 Commons in Seattle, Washington and was recognized with their New Member Award for excellent client service. You can read what 501 Commons staff and clients had to say about my work at the Kudoboard link below. My consulting projects included IT planning, marketing and internal communications strategies, creating roadmaps for achieving goals related to market engagement and growth, funding development, and digital transformation for productivity. Year: 2020

I am currently accepting new writing, instructional design, and video projects.
