Headteacher's Message

Mr A Moloney, Headteacher

Dear Parents and Carers,

I do hope you and your families are keeping well and enjoying the summer weather?

There are now only 4 weeks left before we break for the summer holidays, (Friday 18th July at 3.15pm), and we are busy preparing for the end of the academic year and the new one, which begins on Tuesday 2nd September at 9.00am for our pupils. Please remember we are having to revert to our usual finishing time of 3.15pm on Friday 18th July, as transport teams are having difficulty staffing their teams for an earlier finish that day.

Can I remind you also please of some of the events we are planning before the end of term.

  • June 27th Leavers’ Mass and Celebration
  • July 3rd and 4th D of E Expedition
  • July 11th Sports afternoon at Longford Park
  • July 14th Class end of year Trips
  • July 17th End of Year Masses 9.30am (KS4/5) and 11.15am (KS3)

Next Friday we will have our leavers’ service and celebration for the pupils who officially leave us on this day. We will do all we can to ensure the pupils who are leaving have a special day and we look forward to celebrating this, with them, next week. We have now also started our transition work for September welcoming into School the parents and pupils who will join SJV in September. We hope our new pupils are able to impact the SJV community in a comparative way to many of our leavers!

It continues to be a busy time for all in school and we appreciate, as always, your continued support.

Best wishes,

Mr A Moloney, Headteacher

  • Do not give children nuts or nut products in their packed lunches.
  • Do not give nuts, nut products or snacks/bars containing nuts for break time snacks.

Highlights of the Week

Our Catholic School

Our spiritual focus in SJV this week:

'May God the Father bless us, may Christ take care of us and may the Holy Spirit enlighten us all the days of our lives.'

- St Ethelwold

Within our Catholic school this week, Father Nick and I led a staff training session about teaching in a Catholic school; the responsibilities we have as teachers, the changes in the RE framework and the role of the Chaplain. It was a good reminder for us to reflect on what it means to work in a Catholic school and our vocation as teachers.

We are preparing our Leavers' Mass, which is approaching faster than we want it to; it is promising to be a bitter sweet moment for us all. Father Nick and I will be having discussions with the leavers to see what they would like to include in the leavers' celebration.

In RE, following a student vote for the topic they most wanted to study, we are now looking at the different Gods worshipped in world-wide religions. Key Stage 3 and 4 are looking Judaism and Key Stage 5 Sikhism – we are enjoying learning about what it means to be part of a world-wide religion and how much we have in common whilst celebrating our differences.
