Week 5

Science - We finished our learning about rocks this week by doing an experiment. We tested different types of rocks on things such as whether they were durable or not, if they were hard wearing and if they had a high or low density. To test the density, we dropped the rocks into a beaker of water. If they floated, they had a low density and if they sunk, they had a high density.

Maths - This week in maths we started addition and subtraction. Our knowledge of place value supported in in working out sums. For example, if we were given the sum ‘40 + 20’. We could see that we didn’t need to add any ones together, but we did need to add 4 tens and 2 tens together, giving us the total of 60.

Some of the children joined a maths club on Wednesday ran by year 6! This shows great determination in wanting to improve their maths skills.

English - In English, we have been getting our creative heads on and writing our own stories. Our story had to be based on the same image. We worked together as a class first to share our ideas on what might be happening in the picture before thinking of ways we could improve our writing, such as through the use of adjectives and inverted commas which we have been working on.

P.E - Our competitive sides came out in P.E this week! Once we were put into groups, we had to decide who was going to be on for the game. The person that was on had to run and touch a cone while the runner did the same on the other side. Then, the runner had to try and get past the person who was on without being tagged.

CBBC Newsround - We have really enjoyed watching the news every day! Each day before lunch, we sit on the carpet to watch CBBC Newsround to find out what has been happening in the world.

Thank you for reading our class blog!
