Project Description:

Union High School’s goal was simple: Design the best high school football stadium in the state. The resulting stadium and athletic facilities are the premier location for high school sports in the region, but this project is more than just a stadium. The goal of the client was achieved by integrating varying needs in a cohesive manner. The renovated stadium is also home to the largest in-stadium screen in Oklahoma, with over 2,000 square feet of video board.

A new structure was built for the home side that included two decks of seating, a 40-yard-wide press box, specialty suites, and an elevator to serve staff, media, coaches and fans. An expanded weight room, locker rooms, coaches’ offices, and a new space for the wrestling program were also included beneath the concourse. Additionally, concrete enhancements, cosmetic improvements, and field light towers comprised the renovations on the visitor’s side.

The space beneath the concourse houses one of the state’s largest weight rooms and wrestling facilities, as well as a dedicated training facility for the girls’ wrestling program. The press box above provides spaces for several student-supported programs, including fine arts and video production.

A new building to house the nationally award-winning music and marching band programs was built at the north end of the field, with the visual effect of enclosing the stadium bowl and serving as the backdrop for the new jumbo LED screen. As the band building sits adjacent to the playing field, it provides enough dedicated space for the entire company to rehearse and directly transition to the field during performance. The expansion gave a home to several different programs that were in need and allows other popular programs room to grow.
