WESD e-news: Sept. 20, 2024

A Message from WESD Superintendent Dr. Paul Stanton

Greetings WESD Families and Staff,

It’s Dr. Paul Stanton again. We are almost through the first quarter (can you believe it)? The temperature is a touch cooler, campuses are planning their many fall events (including Parent/Teacher Conferences) and every one of our WESD staff is working hard to meet the needs of your student(s). We cannot thank you enough for supporting our staff through thank you notes, treats, lots of support and so much more. We cannot do school without you.

I would like to recognize Jaimie Brown, our Program Coordinator and Instructional Coach for the WESD Title VI Native American Education Program. The WESD recently had a Native American Education Program (NAEP) Ice Cream Social that was very well attended. Jaimie shared resources WESD provides our families and shared the calendar for the events this year. I would like to thank Jaimie and her team for all their hard work.

In this e-news, you will learn about our new starting pay for bus drivers and our ask that you reach out to your network to help us find drivers, our September SUPER Kids and SUPER Staff, a grant for $10,000 Royal Palm received and our We’re Listening tool and WESD social media pages.

That is what SUPER Kids and SUPER Staff is all about. Congratulations to the deserving recipients from Chaparral Elementary School, Sweetwater School, Tumbleweed Elementary School and the WESD Administrative Center. SUPER Kids received a certificate and a free pizza from Peter Piper Pizza while SUPER Staff earned a certificate and a $5 Starbucks gift card.

Royal Palm Receives $10,000 Grant from Sprouts

A special thank you to the Sprouts Healthy Communities Foundation for awarding Royal Palm Middle School with $10,000. Royal Palm Principal Darcy Estrada recently accepted the award at a local Sprouts Farmers Market. The school will use the funds to break ground on a garden that will be used by its classroom students and after-school Garden Club. Shout out to Anthony Rusk, science teacher and Garden Club facilitator at Royal Palm, for writing the grant.

We are so grateful for the support of Sprouts and appreciate this amazing opportunity that will positively impact the Royal Palm community.
