A monarch Butterfly will not exist without milkweed ; it's the only plant on which they will lay their eggs. Butterflies disappeared for a while after the Thomas fire. Last year, we also planted many milkweed plants on campus to create a place for them to return to. Now, we can see several larvae and pupae of them in the school.
These are eye-catching to students. Ms. Davis, who is leading these activities, is delighted with this event.
"It's incredible to imagine, you know this caterpillar goes inside this chrysalis and comes out a butterfly. I am not a kid anymore but still, it takes me back to being a kid to imagine what this is like at a cellular level." - Ms. Davis
These are the assets of the Ojai Valley School that connect students to nature and we will protect them. Hopefully, this will be healing for the students and many more monarch butterflies will return to this place in the future.
