Mrs. Bush's Barnard Broadcaster "Each person, each day, learning and caring in every way."

Dear Families,

We sure did have a busy week with all of our Barnard Blue Jays this week. Starting off the week Mrs. Burnham hosted three fabulous Music Informances with her first grade classrooms, welcoming all families in to experience the big concepts her first grade students are building. From following notes to singing, breathing techniques, how to learn a new song, and more, Mrs. Burnham earned a Huge Shout Out for a job well done! Thanks Mrs. Burnham for fostering a love of music and growing their talents!

The excitement continued with a jam packed pancake breakfast for our Fun Run Blue Jays who raised over $200. Not only did we enjoy delicious pancakes together, we also had fun decorating Halloween sticker pictures and playing Halloween Bingo! We even squeezed in a great night at Skate World to support our 5th graders in their fundraising events. Next, all 4th graders enjoyed a successful field trip to the DIA, along with the kindergarteners making memories on their first field trip to the pumpkin patch.

Finally, to wrap up the week, I experienced my first Fun Run Assembly celebration in which 18 lucky students had the immense pleasure of dumping a bucket of slime all over me. Definitely an experience I will never forget. The laughter and joy that filled the cafeteria though was a great way to end the week. Enjoy your weekend Barnard Families! More fun is to come to end the month of October.

My goal is that 100% of our students will have at least one caregiver check in on his/her child's progress. Conferences are an important opportunity to connect with your child's teacher to gain a deeper understanding of your child's academic progress and strengths as well as collaborate on strategies to support their social development. We thank you in advance for your partnership in ensuring a well-rounded and successful educational experience. During parent teacher conferences, we are also excited to share that we will have our Book Fair open at this time to purchase books for your child.

Virtual Conferences are on Microsoft Teams

Scholastic Book Fair- This week!

Barnard Scholastic Book Fair- Open All Week -Special Wednesday Night Hours 2-7:30pm

Dear Barnard Families,

This week, October 23-27, is the Fall Book Fair! On Friday, our students had a chance to preview the fair and left very excited. Students will have an opportunity to shop the fair during their normal library time. In addition, we will hold extended afternoon and evening shopping hours on Wednesday during Fall Conferences. Stop by!

The fair will be held in the Media Center. As you enter the fair you will also see a Teacher Wish List board. Teachers have created lists of books they would love to add to their class collection. Families electing to purchase and donate a book to a class will get to place a dedication sticker inside the book.

For those concerned about sending a child to school carrying cash, Scholastic has an eWallet option. Parents can easily set-up an eWallet and determine how much to deposit. The link below will tell you more and explain how to create an eWallet.

We look forward to seeing you at the fair!

Mr. Warner

Community Outreach Committee Steps Out with their First Schoolwide Initiatives

The Barnard Community Outreach Committee will also be sponsoring a spirit day! Spirit day will cost $1 to participate. All proceeds will go towards supporting our Barnard Families in times of need. Currently, Barnard has a family that could benefit from this support. Each month we will have a different spirit day to help with this! This month’s spirit day will be PJ Day on Friday October 27th! Come dressed in your comfy clothes!

The Barnard Community Outreach Committee will be hosting a Gift Card Drive starting Monday October 23rd. These gift cards will go towards Barnard families in need throughout the year. Students can bring these gift cards in give them to their teachers. We will also have a collection bin in the office. We thank you in advance for all your help!!! To donate a gift card please use our sign-up genius by clicking the button below.

You may have noticed the large green donation bin in our parking lot. As a reminder, this recycling bin serves as a repurposing service for our Barnard Community while helping those in our local and surrounding communities in need.

Now that the weather has begun to get a little cooler in the mornings, we have more items in our Lost & Found. The Lost & Found is located in our ART hallway. You can access it before or after school if you need to pick something up or look for a misplaced item. Students walk past this on their way to lunch daily as well. We will also have this set out for you to view during Parent-Teacher Conferences.

All families welcome to come watch the parade at 3:15 pm. Line up along the parade route to admire the creative costumes.
Caregivers are welcome to sign their child out early after the parade is over.

Guidelines for Halloween Costumes

As you guide your child in planning a costume, please keep in mind that we would appreciate your cooperation in planning something that is not scary, ghoulish, morbid, or in any way offensive to any culture or particular group of people. Costumes should not make fun of real people or real human traits. If your child is wearing a historical costume, make sure that it does not present misinformation or inaccuracies. We are asking all Halloween costumes to be of a non-violent nature. Also, no toy weapons, guns, knives, swords, light sabers, etc. will be permitted. We would hate to have a student have to remove their costume, so please make sure that it is appropriate and follows these guidelines. If you do not want your child to participate in these activities, please advise your child’s teacher.
