URBAN CULTURE FACTORY DESIGNED BY AMELIA BARNARD

DESIGN PROPOSAL

In creating a “factory” for urban culture, a circulation system designed by direct connection was the solution to creating a space in which such different programs could successfully exist and even generate a powerful spatial energy between one another. Though the individual elements of each node never overlap or exist in the presence of another space, the impact of directly guided movement with surprising exploration is felt between each shell. Along with the power of orchestrated circulation, the specifically selected materials throughout each shell and tube further provide a new kind of urban exploration. While flowing through tunnels of constricting denseness and into spacious galleries, each pathway a viewer takes may lead them to new discoveries about the urban culture factory itself or even views of city in which it is fostered. Through the design of intentionally separating space, a new realm of exploration is created in which the boundaries between interior and exterior are constantly warping for the viewer’s experience.
