Principal's message:

This week we hosted a visit from The Rt Hon Damien Hinds MP and Dame Kate Dethridge. Minister Hinds has just been appointed as Minister of State at the Department for Education on 13 November 2023, and, as a result, he is keen to visit some schools, and we were recommended, by the DfE, as a school he should visit. Dame Kate, the Education Regional Director for the South East joined him on this visit. It was a pleasure showing them around the school.

Minister Hinds was very keen to visit lessons and meet with the children, and experience what it is like for the girls at RGS. The two Head Girls, Katherine and Danojini joined us on the tour around the school, and they were busy talking to our visitors about what the school has to offer the students. The visit culminated with the Minister and Dame Kate meeting with members of our Senior Student Leadership Team and members of the Senior Leadership Team, discussing issues relating to education over lunch. The Minister was questioned by the girls on the future of education and how the government could ensure that the curriculum is more diverse and inclusive. Both visitors were keen to hear how we celebrate diversity and were particularly interested and impressed by our Cultural Diversity Day.

The visit provided a wonderful experience for all our students and staff. Dame Kate's letter of thanks can be viewed below.

I wish you all a restful weekend.

Marika Farrugia, Principal

PE DEPARTMENT

Year 8/9 Football

Our Year 8/9 team unfortunately had a few interrupted match nights. They did however finish the league off with a bang. They beat Oakbank 1-0, with a fantastic goal scored by Abiona. They then went on to beat JMA 2-0. Abiona scored in open play and Talisha bravely stepped up to take a successful penalty after a handball by one of their defenders. A great finish to the league, well done.

Year 7 Football

Our Year 7 team started their league campaign on Thursday. They were a little bit unlucky in their first game, despite dominating possession, they narrowly lost by 1 goal against BHF. Their next game was against JMA which they won 3-1 with a hat trick from Akarai who also captained the team extremely well. Well done.
