Barsby School of Rock
Come out to the Queens this Friday (April 12, 2024) to support the band students from John Barsby Community School as they fundraise for their band trip through BC and Alberta this May! Tickets are still available for purchase at the school or at the door. Doors open at 5:30pm.

Business Committee Meeting
At the Business Committee meeting on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, the Business Committee recommended the Board of Education make the 2024-2028 Draft Strategic Plan available to the public for a consultation period. The committee also recommended the Board of Education approve the Capital Plan Bylaw.
The committee received the proposed 2024-2025 Annual Budget and updates on the Student and Family Affordability Fund and the Long Range Facilities Plan. The committee also received information on the electric vehicle infrastructure and lead in the water.

Public Works Day 2024
Deadline to apply has been extended for the City of Nanaimo's Public Works Day on Wednesday, May 22, 2024. The day includes interactive displays and activities for students in Grades 4 and 5 to allow students to gain an understanding of the many services provided by the Engineering and Public Works Department. This year's theme is Advancing Quality of Life for All.
There will be approximately 17 different educational presentations and a 30-minute nutritional break. If your class is interested in participating, complete the School Information Sheet and the Student Consent Form. If you are interested and busing is required, please arrange with the Transportation Department.

Learning with Syeyutsus
Join us on Wednesday, April 24 from 12-1 p.m. for the next Learning with Syeyutsus Indigenous learning series featuring author Nicola Levell. Nicola will discuss the art of Micheal Nicoll Yahgulanaas.

Earth Day at Park Avenue Farm
Leadership Vancouver Island (LVI), in partnership with Nanaimo Foodshare Society and the City of Nanaimo, invites the community to join in the festivities of Earth Day at Park Avenue Farm on Saturday, April 20, 2024 from 10am until 2pm. This family-friendly event promises a day of fun, education, and community connection, all centered around the theme of sustainability and local agriculture.
The Food for Thought Team, a part of LVI, recognizes the challenges families face in accessing nutritious food. By partnering with the Nanaimo Foodshare Society, they aim to raise awareness of food programs and initiatives while highlighting the opportunities for hands-on learning and ecological stewardship at Park Avenue Farm (945 Park Avenue, Nanaimo).
