ANSWERING THE CALL
'80 Alumnae Faced Race to Gain Admission
For many of the women of the Class of 1980, the Naval Academy application process occurred in an accelerated window thanks to the new law being signed in the fall of their senior year in high school. While their male peers had months, even years to solicit recommendations and nominations, the women had weeks.
The USNA Class of 1980 was comprised of resourceful and determined women seeking to serve their nation. Here are some of their stories about getting to Annapolis, MD.
It was such an amazing experience of friendship and diplomacy at the most basic level of people meeting and getting to know people from another country. I cherish this memory as a cornerstone to my Naval Academy leadership experience.

I applied to the Naval Academy at the end of my junior year in high school in the summer of 1975. I had a friend that was recently accepted to the Naval Academy with the Class of 1979, and looking through the catalog he shared with me, I thought I’d like to be part of the Academy.
