News Round Up 17th January 2025

Sporting Successes

It has been a brilliant start to the term for our amazing sporting superstars!

Netball Trials

We had a fantastic turn out at Senior Netball trials on Saturday, where students took part in a warm up, followed by ball drills, mini matches and then full matches.

Competitive matches began again this week, with wins for the U15s against Weald (36-20), the 1st team against TOGS (23-16) and a draw for the Year 9 regional squad who played TOGS 2nd senior team (20-20).

Fencing

Huge congratulations to Year 11's Hiba, who, having already been selected three times to represent GB in Fencing, has now been selected for the two remaining competitions this season.

Hiba has competed on the European Cadet Under 17 Fencing Circuit in Budapest, Klagenfurt (Austria) and Grenoble already and will travel to Samorin (Slovakia) and Novi Sad (Serbia) later this month. We wish her all the best and look forward to seeing how she progresses.

Archery

Congratulations to one of our boarders, Year 10's Judy, who won a silver medal in her Archery tournament just before Christmas.

Judy travelled to Warwickshire to take part in her first UK competition; the Junior National Indoor Championship held with Archery GB. She finished in second place which is a fantastic achievement. Kent College, and Judy's club in Tonbridge, are really proud of her!

Equestrian

Last week Kent College students competed in an Equestrian competition at Hadlow College. Year 8's Phoebe had a good day, jumping a lovely clear round in the 60cm and Mia in Year 9 jumped two fabulous rounds in the 85cm and 95cm to win both classes! Mia has also now qualified as an individual for the RPL championship at Hickstead in August. It wasn't only our Senior students, Maisie from Year 3 in the Prep School also rode a beautiful round in both the 60cm and 70cm to receive 4th place in both classes. She has now qualified for the championships at Hickstead in August. Well done to everyone!

Swimming

The Kent Schools Swimming Championships were held at Hartsdown pool in Margate last weekend. Our swimmers performed brilliantly with most swims achieving personal bests which is incredible.

KC has been involved with the Diana Awards since 2024, to train our students to become Anti-Bullying Ambassadors. They gain the skills to help foster a safer and kinder school community. Congratulations on becoming Anti-Bullying Ambassadors!

Year 7 Art

Just before Christmas the Year 7's were exploring the theme 'Houses', working with different techniques to experiment with. They started off with collage, then built cardboard houses, then moved onto clay. Their beautiful little houses were fired just before Christmas, ready for them to be taken home this week!

Mr Hall has been demonstrating that vegan food is tasty as well as healthy and focusing on certain vegetables and pulses, highlighting the many ways they can be cooked.

Boarding Life

After some shopping in Tunbridge Wells on Saturday, our boarders enjoyed some pizza making for dinner in house on Saturday night.

In addition, it was Sixth Former boarder, Elli’s, 18th birthday at the weekend and we love to celebrate birthdays in boarding! Kitty, one of the fabulous members of our Catering Team always pulls out all the stops for our boarders, as demonstrated by this fabulous cake she made (cake champagne bottle included)!
