The Family Behind Khao Man Gai. Ban Du, Chiang Rai

The servant's heart.

For 23 years, the aroma of jasmine rice and fried garlic has drifted from a small chicken rice stall tucked inside a quiet street in Chiang Rai.

Jakit with the help of his wife Wanten, ran the business for over 23 years

The man behind the counter, smiles and cheerful greetings, has been cooking for nearly half his life.

Personal note: This was one of the most fragrant and delicious dished I've tasted. It's simple but It reminds me of what you would eat with family.

What started as a small stall on the corner turned into a lifelong livelihood — one that sent both their sons to graduate from University.

During COVID, sales dropped from 100 orders to barely 60 a day, but he never stopped. “That’s what it means to be a seller,” Jakit said. “You can’t give up.”

When the Corner Fades.

When rent became too high, he moved his restaurant to a smaller street where he’s stayed for 13 years.

This man delivered food stocks for their quaint shop

Every morning, he wakes up at 6 a.m. to buy chicken and vegetables from the market, then spends the rest of the day cooking and serving students.

The Red Apron.

Jakit wears the same apron every day. A symbol of patience, hard work, and quiet perseverance. His secret isn’t just in the chicken fat or pandan rice, but in his heart for people.

“You must adapt to your customers,” Jakit said. “Care about what they like.” After listening to their story, it's isn’t just about food, it’s about faithfulness. Day after day serving others with love that lasts.

Thank you Jakit & Wanten for your hospitality and patience
