This app empowers users to confidently and creatively craft drinks using whatever ingredients are available, breaking down the traditional barriers associated with mixology. In the context of social gatherings, a prevalent issue is the mismatch between attendees' confidence in cocktail making and their ability to effectively use available ingredients. In the usability testing phase of the InfiniMix app, the drink creation screen presented initial challenges for users, specifically regarding how to start adding ingredients. Initially, there was no clear call-to-action (CTA); users only had a menu to navigate. This lack of guidance led to confusion, highlighting the need for a more obvious CTA. In response, I designed a prominent CTA that effectively encouraged users to begin adding ingredients, which facilitated a smoother interaction with the app and enhanced the overall user experience. Moreover, participants reported that the images of the ingredients were too small, making them difficult to identify. This feedback prompted a redesign to increase the size of these images for better visibility. Additionally, during the testing of the loading screen, users expressed a strong preference for the dynamic spinning InfiniMix logo over a static logo with a loading bar, which underscored the value of incorporating interactive and visually appealing elements into the app.
Future Work
For the future development of the InfiniMix app, I plan to enhance user engagement by incorporating elements of gamification. One key addition will be the introduction of leaderboards and badges, which are designed to motivate and reward users for their participation. Badges will be earned by users as they create drinks, with different badges awarded based on the number of drinks made, effectively showcasing their level of expertise and engagement. Additionally, the leaderboard will foster a competitive environment by displaying users who excel in creating the best custom drinks. This feature is still in the design phase, but the goal is to allow users to craft and share their custom drink creations with others. These drinks will then be voted on by the community, and the creators of the most popular drinks will be highlighted on the leaderboard. This gamification strategy aims to create a dynamic and interactive community, encouraging continuous creativity and interaction among users.
Reflection
Reflecting on the development journey of InfiniMix, I began the process with a clearly identified problem but no preconceived solution. As the project progressed, the importance of user research, market research, and competitive analysis became increasingly apparent. Each phase of research provided deeper insights into user needs and market gaps, gradually unveiling the most effective solution to the initial problem. This experience with InfiniMix has reinforced the critical role of thoroughly understanding the user, as well as the broader market and competitors. The iterative design process of InfiniMix demonstrated that starting with just a problem is not a limitation; rather, it is an opportunity for discovery. By actively listening to users and observing the competitive landscape, ideas and solutions began to emerge more clearly and intuitively. This process taught me that there is indeed a solution for every problem it simply requires patience, attentiveness, and a willingness to adapt and evolve based on informed insights.
