A Message from the Headteacher

Please click one of the above buttons to apply for either Nursery, Primary or Secondary School

With our new year now in full swing, as always there has been plenty going on at Birkwood this week!

I must start by reminding everyone just what a fantastic job our cleaning team perform every single day in school. I mentioned some of the exciting developments across the site and the management of these. Whilst doing so, I was wrong in not referencing the very significant work and commitment of our cleaning staff. They are amazing and central to everything that we do. So, a huge thank you to them and an apology for the omission.

We have added some more dates to the diary so please keep a close eye out for those. As ever, things pop up and dates are clarified at different times.

I again plead with our families who drive to school to park thoughtfully and safely. We have some developments coming soon that will help, the biggest factor however would be less driving to school and use of the Pinfold Car Park and a short walk to school from there. I will write separately over the parking but wish to remind you of the need to take great care around Birkwood.

This week, our year five children started a project around opportunities in technology for girls. This looks to be a very exciting initiative, and I look forward to updating you as the year goes on.

We have begun planning our Year 5 residential in earnest as well this week. The children will have a great time visiting Sherwood Forest. I ask Year Five families to take advantage of this opportunity and aim to be at the parents meeting which will be held on Thursday 9th October at 3:15pm. This will be brilliant.

Another exciting event was our hosting of a scooter event. The photos look amazing, and I know that the children absolutely loved it. Great work!

Next week includes some workshops around internet safety delivered by South Yorkshire Police; this should be brilliant as you know the internet is one of the biggest challenges to our children and their safety. We are tackling these challenges extremely regularly and appreciate your support at home at all times.

We also have a phonics meeting for Reception parents on Thursday – please come along and learn the start of our reading journey at Birkwood!

Friday then signals the start of our sporting competitions with a cross-country event at Milefield. Sport is magic and teaches such wonderful lessons and values. Good luck to all involved.

We have a vacancy for a Parent Governor – should you be interested then please pop into the office for a form. Closing is 19 Sept at 12pm.

We are hosting a new to FS1 & FS2 open evening for families who may be considering Birkwood for September 2026. If you know a family with children of this age (3 in September for Nursery, 4 for Reception) then please encourage them to come and see us on Wednesday 22nd October, between 4pm and 5pm.

Could I please remind parents that they must sign their child up for breakfast club before attendance. The number of children attending is steadily increasing and we need to ensure that there are enough staff on hand to look after your child each day.

As always, I wish you a wonderful weekend and hope you manage some lovely family time. Please remember that we are so proud to be working with you all and our fabulous children who give so much each and every day!
