Dear Parents/Caregivers,
HSC is officially over!
Congratulations to all of our HSC students for their endurance and effort throughout the four weeks of the HSC exams. What a relief for them, and their families, that it is over. Onwards and upwards into your next chapter, but not before you take some time to celebrate, reflect and connect with friends and family. You all deserve this time to relax and be free!
Year 12 sign out day
We look forward to seeing all HSC students at school on Monday 11 November from 9:00 – 11:30am for their sign out day in the Library. We ask that students return any school resources, reconcile their statement of account (this has been emailed to parents) as well as donate any good quality second hand uniform items that they have no use for - we can donate or sell them to future students. All students should come to the Student Services Counter when they arrive at school to collect their sign out form
Classics by the Cove
The quadrangle is abuzz with the poetic and theatrical sounds of Year 7 English and Year 9 Drama as the students rehearse their performances in preparation for Classics by the Cove on Wednesday 27 November at 6pm. Come along and see our students immerse themselves in the classics in this wonderful program delivered to us by our passionate and dynamic English/Drama teachers and students.
Public Schools Arts Festival
I am excited to be attending the Public Schools Arts Festival at the Addison Road Community Centre this evening. Ms Hearne entered her Year 8 coral sculptures as collaborative artworks and the organisation loved them. Ms Hearne and I look forward to seeing our Year 8 sculptures, along with all of the other wonderful student artworks, on display.
Transurban Art Exhibition
In more art news, I would like to congratulate Jessica R, Amy Y, Erin S, Zali C and Ellie L in being acknowledged for their art entries in the Transurban Art Awards. Our school was announced the overall winner in this competition, as a result of their entries. For their efforts, these five Year 7 students will attend the Awards Ceremony at KPMG, Barangaroo, accompanied by Ms Hearne, Ms Thomas and myself later in November. What wonderful ambassadors for our school, these fine young students are!
Recognition Assembly
We have a few important events coming up at the end of the term, including the Recognition Assembly on Friday 13 December at 10:30am in the Hall. This is a whole school assembly. Students will be notified if they will be receiving an award and the parents of award recipients are invited to attend this event and the morning tea to follow
See you all for Arts Night on Wednesday 13 November at 5:00pm in the Gym and Hall.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Classics by The Cove Rehearsals
This past fortnight in English and Drama classes, Year 7 and Year 9 Drama students have begun working on their Classics by the Cove performances. Students have engaged in a range of class activities to prepare themselves for the performance. They have delved into the classical texts studied and explored the power of language to communicate to and engage an audience.
In addition, the students have been actively involved in the creative process. They have collaborated to write original scripts, auditioned for roles, selected engaging props to enhance their performances and made decisions in the staging and interpretation of the performances. This hands-on approach has allowed students to develop their creative and critical thinking skills and added more complexity to their engagement of these classical texts. Students will be performing scenes from Shakespearean plays, Ancient Greek Myths and Commedia dell’arte.
We look forward to sharing these performances with the Riverside Community on Wednesday 27 th November at 6pm. All are welcome to attend. The P&C will be selling refreshments before the performances and during intermission.
The photos below are of 7K and 7T students rehearsing.

Year 8 HPGE Food Works
This week in Science, we learned about the fascinating world of food webs. A food web is a system of interconnected food chains that show how energy moves through ecosystems. We discussed how plants (producers) are eaten by herbivores (primary consumers), which are then eaten by carnivores (secondary consumers), and so on. We also learned about decomposers, like fungi and bacteria, which break down dead plants and animals, recycling nutrients back into the ecosystem.
To help visualise how energy flows, we created a class-wide food web using animals and plants from the Great Barrier Reef. This activity helped us understand the importance of each organism in maintaining balance in nature. Ask your local Year 8 HPGE Food Web expert all about it!
