STUDENT DISCO The highlight of our students’ social calendar will take place this Friday evening with the student disco to be held in the school gymnasium. We are still in need of parent volunteers to help with supervision but especially the sausage sizzle. Foundation to Year 2 students get to dazzle us with their dancing from 6pm until 7pm and Years 3 to 6 students rage from 7.15pm until 8.15pm. Many thanks to the Parents and Friends committee for planning and implementing this event.

FOUNDATION 2024 INFORMATION NIGHT A reminder to our school community that the 2024 Foundation Information Night will be held in the school gymnasium on November 9 commencing at 6.30pm. Please let others know!

GRADE 3 SLEEPOVER In lieu of a school camp for this year, our Grade 3 students will be given the opportunity to sleepover at school on Thursday, November 2. The intention is that they attend a ‘camp-like’ evening of activities, sleep in our gymnasium that night and then take part in a range of activities the following day before heading home as normal on Friday afternoon. More specific details have been posted on Compass for Grade 3 families, but I know that the students are very much looking forward to this event. As of 2024, we resume our Grade 3 to 6 camping program with the only major difference from pre-Covid times being that all camps will be three days and two nights. The Grade 3s will visit Phillip Island in 2024, Grade 4 will head to Anglesea, Grade 5 to Bacchus Marsh and Grade 6 to Echuca. From 2025, Grade 6 students will attend an Urban camp near the State Hockey centre and participate in a range of city activities including the Shrine of Remembrance, State Parliament, the MCG and similar.

INTENTIONS TO LEAVE I’m hopeful we have heard from everyone by now, but if there are any other families intending to leave our school community in 2024 because of relocation or other reason, could you please advise us as soon as possible. A phone call to the office, or an email to the school or my email account asap would be most appreciated.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATION FOR GRADE PLACEMENTS 2024 – TWO WEEKS TO GO!! Each year at this time, we seek input from families with regards to the placement of students into classes for the following year (if that is necessary). We do recognise that there might be some limited circumstances initiating a parental grade request, but please think carefully about this and if you really do feel a need to inform us of these circumstances then do let us know. At this stage, we have not assigned teachers to grade levels for next year, and in fact still need to select a few teachers to fill those roles next year. There are no guarantees that teachers currently teaching at certain grade levels will be teaching there next year, as leadership needs to take into consideration a range of factors including the development of our teaching staff and teacher preferences before this allocation is completed. We have also not settled on a grade structure for 2024, with the possibility of one or two composite classes in the junior area of the school, or even in the upper grades to keep class numbers down. Having said that, if there are special circumstances that we need to know about, you are welcome to let us know of these. Such special circumstances might include but are not limited to health, emotional or learning matters, peer or sibling relationships or changes in the home situation. Selecting a particular teacher does not fit within the realm of special circumstances, and if your request includes that information it will be denied. Information requiring our consideration needs to be addressed to ‘The Principal’ and emailed to the office or myself by Friday, November 3. Please title the email “CONFIDENTIAL – GRADE REQUEST’. Please note that emails received after this date will NOT be accepted. All emails will be acknowledged.

Kind regards,

Bill Kersing

Principal

SWPBS Wellbeing Wednesday Celebration Students and staff had a wonderful afternoon on Wednesday, participating in a range of activities to nurture their wellbeing. Students were able to choose an activity that interested them and spent the afternoon creating, exploring and enjoying.

There was everything from Lego to cooking, craft to karaoke. Games, stop motion animation, coding and Minecraft were popular, trivia had students thinking hard and art and mindful colouring provided a relaxing end to the day.

Thanks to Mrs Maxwell-Lopez and the SWPBS team for organising the afternoon and to all the staff for providing engaging activities that made everyone feel good.

Have a great week

Gill
