August is National Wellness Month

Summer is still here, DC! Celebrate National Wellness Month by prioritizing self-care and promoting healthy habits and routines. Between work deadlines, family obligations, and many other stressors it can be all too easy to put health and wellness on the back burner. Research has shown that self-care helps manage stress and promotes happiness. Enhance your well-being and earn rewards by making small changes to boost your mental wellness and physical fitness. Join our exclusive webinar series and summer challenges.

2024 Summer Wellness Challenge

DC Government is excited to announce a partnership with SoHookd, an innovative wellness provider, to offer you On-Demand Wellness Webinars that you can watch at your own time at your own convenience. In addition, we will be rewarding you for watching the Wellness Webinars by raffling off gift cards to The SoHookd Wellness Marketplace.

For our Summer Wellness Series, we will be releasing 2 self-care webinars each month. Webinars will be posted on the first of each month and winners will be chosen at the end of each month.

Movement 101

On-Demand (Available starting August 1)

Daily movement helps our minds and bodies function at their best. In this engaging session, learn the many benefits of movement and exercise on both our physical and mental health, in addition to accessible strategies to incorporate movement into your day. This workshop is led by a physical therapist and is geared for all ages, body types, and physical ability levels.

About the Speaker:

Dr. Kate Ayoub PT, DPT, MPH is a health coach and physical therapist. As a health care provider, Kate saw that many patients knew the "right" things to do health-wise but lacked the strategies to implement them successfully. Through Own Your Movement, she helps clients build and sustain healthy habits. In addition to coaching, Kate is an adjunct faculty member at Marymount University.

Soul Healing Meditation

On-Demand (Available starting August 1)

Release tension, increase awareness, find stillness, improve your focus, release blocks, increase clarity, and create inner harmony with soul-healing meditations. Andrea will guide you through breathwork, body scans, and specialized techniques to attune to elevated energy and support your mental health.

About the Speaker:

Andrea Clary is a 200-hour Registered Yoga Teacher, Reiki Practitioner, Qualified Mental Health Professional, and Soul Wellness Expert. She began her yoga journey in 2014 and started teaching in 2017. Her journey shifted in 2018 after a Leukemia diagnosis; this transformed her life and she decided to help others create their own soul-healing practices to navigate life's ebbs & flows. Clary’s goal is to continue to expand & teach ways to nourish one’s soul, life, and home on and off the mat.

Mindful Mondays

Kickstart your week with our Mindful Mondays meditation classes to help you foster presence, sharpen focus, and lessen emotional reactivity. These sessions are designed to fortify your resilience against stress, heighten self-awareness, nurture healthier relationships, and ultimately elevate your quality of life.

30-Minute Meditation: Reduce Anxiety and Stress

Occurs Every Monday

11:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. EST

Start your week with our Monday meditation classes to help you sharpen your focus, and get ready for the days ahead. Meditations are inspired to give your mind a little rest to rejuvenate and recharge.

Each 30-minute meditation helps relax the entire body, including the brain, the nervous system, and the heart’s blood pressure. Gentle slow breaths also nurture the immune system and lower rates of anxiety and depression.

Pamela, the meditation instructor, will be away on August 5th and has generously provided recordings during her absence. Employees can click on the specific date and watch the recording to keep their meditation habits and lifestyle strong!
