Opening in 2026 on the northwest corner of 99th Street and Madison Avenue, in the heart of the Upper East Side, the Carolyn Rowan Center for Women’s Health and Wellness at Mount Sinai will be a haven for the women who choose Mount Sinai for their care. Answering the call of women of all ages across New York City, the Rowan Center will provide the convenience of accessing multiple specialties and services at the same hospital, anchoring women’s health care in a singular place that recognizes their needs across different decades of life.

The Rowan Center will offer services that combine principles of integrative and evidence-based medicine. These range across individual needs and life stages and will include obstetric, gynecologic, and postpartum care; precision diagnostic testing and acupuncture; pelvic floor physical therapy; and specialized perimenopause and menopause care, as well as breast and gynecologic cancer survivorship care.

Every woman who comes to the Rowan Center will be matched to a clinical care pathway—a curated, comprehensive care plan that considers all of her health care needs. The new Rowan Center will give women the comprehensive and coordinated care that they deserve, care that’s designed to help them to thrive across their lives.

Dr. Anna Barbieri: Clinical Strategy Lead

Anna Barbieri, MD is a dual board-certified gynecologist and integrative medicine physician, as well as a specialist in menopause medicine. Her passion is personalized, patient-centered, modern, and holistic care of women, informed by the most up-to-date women’s health research. From preventive care to complex gynecologic issues, Dr. Barbieri partners with her patients to help them maintain or restore optimal hormonal and gynecologic health. She has special expertise in helping women navigate perimenopause and menopause by focusing on each patient with customized nutrition and lifestyle advice, as well as use of hormonal therapies and non-hormonal interventions. Dr. Barbieri is the founding physician of Elektra Health, a digital menopause education and support company.

Dr. Joanne Stone: System Chair of the Raquel and Jaime Gilinski Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Science

Joanne Stone, MD, MS, is a sought-after expert in maternal-fetal medicine. Currently Director of the Mount Sinai-Rainbow Clinic that provides enhanced prenatal care following stillbirth, she previously served as the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Division Director and Fellowship Director for the Mount Sinai Health System. Dr. Stone is a Past-President of the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine (SMFM) and serves on the Board for the Foundation for SMFM.

Dr. Leslee Shaw, Vice Chair for Research in the Raquel and Jaime Gilinski Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Science

Leslee J. Shaw, PhD, FACC, FAHA, FSCCT, is a leading outcomes researcher whose primary focus is clinical diagnosis of cardiovascular disease, with a special focus on sex-based biological differences. As Director of the Blavatnik Family Women’s Health Research Institute, she leads women’s health researchers in revealing connections across adolescence, early adulthood, pregnancy, the transition to menopause, and more to inform care that helps women to realize their fullest definition of health. A Past President of the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology and the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography, she is the only person to have served as president of two medical societies within cardiovascular medicine.

Research at the Rowan Center will take a holistic approach to women’s health across the lifespan, driving transformative advancements by deepening our understanding of female biology, challenging standard therapies, and testing innovative treatments. A dedicated clinical trials unit will ensure these breakthroughs reach the patients who need them most.
