hi! i'm erica jean
a positive journalist and presenter who works in radio, social media, and events.
I have a passion for promoting local culture and events. With a background in Musical Theatre and music, I use my knowledge of the local scene and wider community to celebrate the work that goes into the performing arts industry and beyond.
HOW I GOT HERE
I grew up in the Midlands, performing in Dance shows, Musical Theatre, and Music venues. I started my professional career at age 13, and through being interviewed by my local BBC radio at festivals, I found a place for my chatty personality. At age 17, I started working with BBC radio Hereford and Worcester as a Freelance Broadcast assistant. Catching the bug for radio and presenting, I now also work at Radio Brockley in London as a presenter and BTS content creator. I have also set up my own platform 'Erica Jean Behind The Scenes' which promotes the hidden gems of the music industry.
BBC Radio Hereford & Worcester
I am a freelance Broadcast Assistant at BBC Radio Hereford and Worcester. I create social media content and pre-recorded radio interviews at events around the midlands, and in our local radio station.
We work closely with local events and businesses, as well as filming TV content with BBC Midlands Today.
Radio Brockley
I am a presenter and BTS content creator at Radio Brockley in London. I work as part of 'The Alpha Sessions', a series on the radio station and online, which celebrates upcoming artists based in the UK and worldwide.
Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games
I was part of the Commonwealth Games events team, working in the official merch outlets and managing crowds of up to 400,000 people a day coming through Birmingham high streets. I chaperoned the Commonwealth Games' mascot "Perry", promoting the Commonwealth Games brand, and local tourism.
Opening ceremony
I was also in the official opening ceremony as a dancer, and performed alongside Duran Duran, Tony Iommi, and Celeste.
Erica Jean Behind the Scenes
To celebrate the hard work that goes into the creative industry, I started my own social media channel Erica Jean Behind The Scenes. On this platform, I interview people I meet backstage at events to help discover more about the music industry and the performing arts world.
