Athens & Beyond
We started our Greece Photo Tour by photographing one of the most iconic landmarks in Athens - the Acropolis at blue hour. After an elegant dinner at out hotel we left the city behing and headed to small towns on the Peloponnese Peninsula. On the way we stopped at the Theater at Epidauros and checked out the amazing acoustical properties (photo at right) by clapping our hands in the center of the structure.
Model Shoot at Napflio
We love photographing people on our workshops and this trip had several exciting opportunities for photographing the locals. In Napflio we worked with the Basil Papantoniou Foundation and dancers from the Chorokinisi Napflio Dance School to portray young women wearing historical clothing from different parts of Greece.
Exploring Napflio
While in Napflio we had several chances to interact with the locals. We photographed fishermen and fisherwomen (photo at right) as they brought in their daily catch. The Boutzi Castle in the harbor was one of the many sites we visited at sunset. We ended our stay learning about orange and olive cultivation and helping our hosts in the kitchen.
Seaside in Gytheio
The small coastal town of Gytheio brought us right next to the Mediteranean Sea as we photographed a shipwreck at dawn, octopus drying in the sun mid-morning and small boats bobbing in the harbor.
The Island of Zakthynos
After a short ferry ride we landed at the Island of Zakthynos. Some of the highlights included photographing ancient olive trees in the highlands and exploring blue sea caves on the rocky coastline.
Photo Shoot in Kalamata, Greece
For our final stop, we visited a small town outside of Kalamata, Greece for a photoshoot with local models in an olive grove. We followed up the next day with a fantastic lunch and wine-tasting in the wine area near Corinth. Many of the photographers in the group commented on how much we learned about Greece and how authentic the photo opportunities were in this area of Greece. Thanks to Jacque at Strabo for putting together a wonderful itinerary!
A big thank you to the eleven photographers who traveled with us to Greece and to our awesome guide Daniel Rosca. Thanks for sharing your love of oranges and all things Pelopennesse!
