Archer Western completes massive expansion of Big Creek Water Reclamation Facility

Roswell, Georgia - The Big Creek Water Reclamation Facility serves as the largest wastewater treatment facility in North Fulton County, and is now handling the area’s most extensive service demands with its newly expanded treatment capacity.

Fulton County officials have unveiled the completed $350 million expansion project, Fulton County's largest infrastructure investment to date. Chicago, Illinois - Major milestones were recently achieved at the Chicago Transit Authority Red-Purple Modernization project, Walsh Construction and Fluor Corporation have installed the last of the 1,555 precast concrete bridge segments that form the new Red and Purple line track structure between Lawrence and Bryn Mawr.

  • Each bridge segment is 10 feet long and weighs more than 40 tons
  • The segments were manufactured by Utility Concrete Products, LLC in Morris, Illinois and trucked to Chicago, one by one
  • Once on site, each piece was lowered into place by our "Windy City Gantry" construction gantry to minimize impacts to the neighborhood
  • We've built 1.3 miles of new bridge, replacing century-old steel elevated track

In addition to the track segments, crews have completed the last of the stations' concrete pours. After 10 months and two weeks, the Walsh-Fluor Design-Build Team placed over 4,200 CY of concrete at all four of the new stations. This included platform substructure for four platforms, building foundations for 9 buildings across the 4 stations, and above grade walls, curbs and stairs for all 9 buildings. The team performed an excellent job with a very technically challenging task while accounting for architectural wall finishes, the varying elevations and numerous drawing sets.
