On Monday, we gathered for a truly moving Memorial Ceremony in honour of Sgt Leslie Pidd, a brave pilot who, 85 years ago, was fighting in the Battle of Britain when his Hurricane tragically crashed on the site of our school. It was a privilege to welcome members of Sgt Pidd’s family, along with distinguished guests, as we paused to remember his courage and sacrifice. The service was beautiful and full of reflection and gratitude, ensuring that his story and legacy will never be forgotten.
Year 7 Camp IN!
It's a tradition for Year 7 to have a camp-out on the first Friday of the school year and due to the weather, we had a camp-IN! Everyone had a wonderful time playing games, roasting marshmallows, and bonding with new friends. It was a great time to chill out after the excitement of joining the Senior School.
Climbing is Back at KC
We are back on the wall! Indoor Rock Climbing is now part of the co-curricular programme with a morning Climbing Club for those who are extra eager. Students will be learning the skills necessary to belay and climb with confidence. This year, Climbing will also be offered at GCSE level as an individual sport.
Skate Club
We had our first skate this week and learned that perhaps we didn't pick the right day to meet since only one student was able to roll with Chaplain Katie. We are changing the day to THURSDAY starting next week. So grab your skates, skateboards, scooters, or whatever you have with small wheels and join us at the Prep School playground for Skate Club next week! The club is open to Years 5 to Upper Sixth and even staff can come along. Sign up via Evolve - the more the merrier!
First Chapel Service of the School Year
This Wednesday we celebrated our first Chapel service with Sixth Form and Year 9 coming together in worship. Everyone learned about the theme for this year's Chapel: Faith, Hope, and Love. Our new Chapel Prefect, Gracie (Upper Sixth), helped with the prayers, Bea (Year 9) did a fabulous job as a reader while Phoebe and Ruby (Year 9) learned to ring the bells. Thanks to Anna (Upper Sixth) for documenting the occasion with photos from Chaplain Katie's old camera.
Lower Sixth Careers Launch
This week Mrs Gillings and Mrs Oogarah, Head of Careers, introduced the Lower Sixth to Unifrog, a digital platform that helps students explore university courses, career paths, and work opportunities. Held in Tilley Common Room over tea and biscuits, the session gave students the chance to try out Unifrog’s CV builder and begin creating their own professional profiles. They are now well on their way to applying for volunteering roles and work experience placements!
Drama Mentors in Action
Erin, Neve, and Lily, our A Level Drama students, will be mentoring Years 10 and 11 GCSE Drama students throughout the year. They will share their skills, guidance, and enthusiasm, helping younger students grow in confidence and creativity. We are sure they will be fantastic role models and make a real difference in the GCSE Drama journey.
The Drama Department is also updating the Drama Scholarship programme and would love to hear from any parents working in the arts or creative industries who might be willing to offer a talk, workshop, or masterclass. If you are interested, please email brownm@kentcollege.kent.sch.uk.
