U.S. Air Force C-5M Super Galaxy Lands at NAS Pensacola
PENSACOLA, Fla. – A C-5M Super Galaxy with the U.S. Air Force's (USAF) 312th Airlift Squadron out of Travis Air Force Base, California, landed at Naval Air Station (NAS) Pensacola April 18 as part of a scheduled evolution.
One of the largest aircraft ever constructed, the Lockheed C-5M Super Galaxy will transport an Operation Desert Storm-era combat F/A-18 Hornet from the National Naval Aviation Museum (NNAM) onboard NAS Pensacola to the USS Hornet Museum in Alameda, California.
According to the NNAM, the F/A-18 Hornet – confirmed to have shot down a MiG during Operation Desert Storm – was disassembled for the transport, with the aircraft’s wings removed prior to loading on the 312th Airlift Squadron’s C-5.
The F/A-18 Hornet is scheduled for delivery to the USS Hornet Museum April 23, with plans to unveil the aircraft April 26.
Along with numerous aviation and cyber warfare training activities, NAS Pensacola maintains an operational airfield and deepwater port, preserving U.S. Armed Forces operational platforms.
Pensacola Navy League Hosts Enlisted Recognition Breakfast
PENSACOLA, Fla. -- The Pensacola Council of the Navy League hosted their annual Enlisted Recognition Breakfast April 24 at Heritage Hall, Seville Quarter in downtown Pensacola.
The breakfast is held every April as part of Military Appreciation Month.
Outstanding enlisted service members nominated from 24 U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and Air Force commands from the the Pensacola area and, for the first time, the German Air Force were nominated by their commands for special recognition. Awardees received Letters of Appreciation from the Pensacola Council of the Navy League, Senator Rick Scott and Congressman Jimmy Patronis recognizing their contributions to their individual commands
Naval Air Technical Training Center (NATTC) Commanding Officer Capt. Ronnie Harper delivered remarks as guest speaker focused on deckplate leadership.
The event was attended by over 100 people, including local district office representatives for Senator Scott, Congressman Patronis, Florida House member Alex Andrade and Escambia County District 1 Commissioner Steve Stroberger.
The Enlisted Recognition Breakfast is sponsored by Navy Federal Credit Union and Pen Air Credit Union as well as individual and corporate partners that sponsor tables or individual attendance for military members.
Founded in 1946, the Pensacola Council of the Navy League aims to educate the public and elected officials on the importance of a strong maritime component for national security.
The Navy League of the United States was founded with the support of President Teddy Roosevelt in 1902 and promotes the need for strength in sea power. It is a civilian organization that supports and advocates for members of the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and U.S. Flag Merchant Marines that has 224 local councils and more than 53,000 members worldwide.
Pensacola NMCRS Active Duty Fund Drive Surpasses $300,000 in Donations
PENSACOLA, Fla. -- The Pensacola Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society (NMCRS) Active Duty Fund Drive donations surpassed $300,000 April 22.
According to Pensacola NMCRS Director Joy Barnes, the Pensacola-area fund drive has not surpassed $300,000 since 2019.
"Thank you to all the Key Persons and Command Leadership for working so hard and passionately in sharing the work of NMCRS to raise $304, 976," said Center for Information Warfare Training (CIWT) Commanding Officer Capt. Sarah Sherwood, this year's fund drive chair. "Our donation gauges only go up to $300,000, but that doesn't mean we're going to stop now!"
NMCRS, which does not receive government funding, has helped Sailors and Marines and their families deal with crises, prepare for the future, solve problems and find peace of mind through financial assistance and education for over 120 years. NMCRS also supports retired Sailors and Marines and the widows and children of Sailors and Marines who have died.

Leadership Greater Huntsville visits NAS Pensacola
Senior Leader Training Seminar Scheduled May 5-9
There are still seats available to attend the Ruehlin Career Transition Seminar in Pensacola scheduled May 5-9 for senior military members and their spouses who are preparing for transition to private sector careers.
The five-day seminar is scheduled the be held onboard Naval Air Station (NAS) Pensacola, at the Navy Reserve Center (NRC), located at 115 Cunningham Street, Pensacola, FL 32508.
Topic addressed during the seminar include: Career objectives; dealing with change; building a resume; networking; social media; marketing yourself; research and preparation; spouse’s perspective; job interviews; attire; compensation and salary negotiation; and starting your own business.

June 9-12, 8:00-1:00: Exploration Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) Academy is an academy for dependents of Military Families only. It is scheduled to be hosted at Naval Air Station (NAS) Pensacola STARBASE and will be for 30 rising 4th, 5th, & 6th grade boys and girls. Cadets will focus on exciting activities like robotics, engineering design, coding, and hands-on science experiments, all in a unique aviation rich setting.
June 16-19, 9:00-2:00: Underwater Robotics ‘SeaPerch’ Academy is scheduled to be hosted at NAS Pensacola STARBASE & adjacent areas. The SeaPerch Academy is for rising 20 7th & 8th grade boys and girls. Cadets, in team format, will build a SeaPerch submersible ROV and navigate their ROV through an obstacle course and mission course competition!
July 7-10, 7:30-12:30: Blue Wahoos STEAM Academy is scheduled to be hosted at the Blue Wahoos Stadium and will be for 30 rising 4th, 5th, & 6th grade boys and girls. Cadets will focus on exciting STEAM activities like robotics, engineering design, coding and program sports highlights in this unique baseball stadium setting!
