2024 Recap

Top-seeded and host Moravian University claimed the 2024 Landmark Conference Softball Championship with a 5-1 win over No. 5 Lycoming College.

The Greyhounds took control with two runs in the fourth inning, sparked by RBI doubles from Ajala Elmore and Sydney Andrews. After Lycoming cut the lead to 2-1 in the sixth, Moravian answered with three runs in the bottom half, capped by Elmore’s three-run homer.

Madi Cunningham earned the win, improving to 17-2 after allowing one run on six hits with five strikeouts.

Elmore was named Tournament MVP after going 4-for-9 with three runs, four RBI, a double, a home run, and multiple standout defensive plays at second base.

The win marked Moravian’s 11th Landmark title and 19th overall conference championship since 2000. It was the program’s second straight Landmark crown under head coach Josh Baltz.

Catholic University

  • Head Coach: Sophie Maccarone ('21, 2nd Season)
  • Team Titles: 1 (2014)
  • 2025 Seed: #2

Catholic is making its 13th straight postseason appearance and second under head coach Sophie Maccarone, a former standout for the Cardinals.

The Cardinals enter as the No. 2 seed after a 30-10 overall record and a 12-4 mark in Landmark play—highlighted by a historic sweep of top-seeded Moravian University for the first time in program history.

Keep an eye on freshman pitcher Sophia Colangelo, recently named Landmark Rookie of the Year and the only first-year player on the All-Conference First Team. She’s 13-2 overall, 6-1 in conference play, with a 1.20 ERA (second in the league) and 30 strikeouts (fifth).

At the plate, veteran outfielder Amanda Gomez leads the team with a .385 batting average and just earned All-Conference honors for the third time. Katie Scolese, who has started all 40 games, has driven in 36 runs.

Drew University

  • Head Coach: Erica Mehalick ('03, 7th Season)
  • Team Titles: 0
  • Tournament Seed: #5

Drew is making its third appearance in the Landmark Conference Championships and its first in a non-COVID season since 2008, the conference’s inaugural year. The Rangers also competed in the 2021 tournament, when all teams participated due to pandemic-related adjustments.

The team is led by Olivia Magliacano, who has started all 40 games and enters the postseason hitting .386. She earned her first All-Conference honor this season with a First Team nod as an outfielder. She was joined by Hailey Meierhofer, a Second Team selection at second base for the second straight year, as well as catcher Delaney O’Donoghue and pitcher Mackenzie Pisano, who both received Honorable Mention recognition.

Drew opened the tournament with a 3-0 loss to Wilkes on Wednesday, May 7. The Rangers will face the loser of Susquehanna and Catholic in an elimination game on Friday, May 9 at 3:00 p.m.

Moravian University

  • Head Coach: Josh Baltz (3rd Season)
  • Team Titles: 11 (2008-2012; 2015, 2016, 2018, 2021, 2023, 2024)
  • Tournament Seed: #1

Moravian enters the tournament after winning its 11th Landmark Conference softball title in 2024 and hosting the championship for the 12th time in program history.

The Greyhounds are led by two major award winners: Player of the Year Holly Walter and Pitcher of the Year Sarah DeStefano.

Walter has been a standout on both sides of the ball, leading the conference in runs scored (17), hits (21), and stolen bases (13) during Landmark play, while committing just three errors and tallying 45 assists in the field. She holds Moravian’s all-time records for career assists (346) and triples (17)—the latter also ranking second in Landmark Conference history.

In the circle, DeStefano has been dominant, posting a Landmark-best 0.81 earned run average overall and a 0.76 mark in conference games. She notched seven wins and 45 strikeouts against Landmark opponents, and her 0.81 ERA ranks tied for the fifth-best in a single season in league history. She also hit a career milestone with her 200th strikeout on April 29 at Elizabethtown.

Susquehanna University

  • Head Coach: Caressa Derossett (3rd Season)
  • Team Titles: 3 (2013, 2017, 2022)
  • Tournament Seed: #3

Susquehanna has qualified for the Landmark postseason in every year but one since the league's inception in 2007–08—the lone miss coming that inaugural season. The River Hawks are chasing their fourth conference title and first since 2022.

They are led by three-time All-Conference honoree Lexi Palumbo, who is hitting .409 in Landmark play with a league-best .519 on-base percentage. She also leads the conference in extra-base hits with eight doubles and ranks first with 10 walks.

In the circle, Brianna Jones has been a steady force, posting a 1.32 earned run average over 63.2 innings in conference play. She has struck out 74 batters—including 19 looking—and tallied seven Landmark wins.

Wilkes University

  • Head Coach: Jackie Klahold ('15 MS, 6th Season)
  • Team Titles: 0
  • Tournament Seed: #4

Wilkes is making its first appearance in the Landmark Conference Softball Championship and made an immediate impact with a 3-0 win over Drew in the tournament opener.

Mia Butka leads the Colonels offensively with a .365 batting average, 35 hits, and four home runs. Her 11 doubles are tied for fourth in the Landmark, and her 1.040 OPS and .634 slugging percentage both rank in the conference’s top five.

In the circle, the Wilkes pitching staff owns the third-best earned run average in the Landmark at 2.75. Lauren DeMarco leads the group with an 8-3 record and a 1.41 ERA—second-best in the league. The Merrick, N.Y. native also ranks fourth in the conference with a team-high 66 strikeouts.
