WEEKLY NEWSLETTER west meadows - 25th april 2025

Welcome to West Meadows Weekly!

Welcome back to the final term of this academic year! The summer term is always a super fun and busy one and this has certainly been the case this week! It was wonderful to be able to welcome parents into school this week for two different workshops. Firstly, we held a workshop with Compass Be to support with mental health and have received some fantastic feedback from this. Thank you to those who attended. Our second was a phonics workshop for parents which it was lovely to welcome so many of you to. Thank you for coming!

Timestable Superheroes:

This year, on Friday 23rd May, we will be joining in with all of the HCAT and St. Mary’s Academy Trust schools across Barnsley to hold a TT Rock Stars Day Competition. This year’s theme will be Timestable Superheroes. Children can come dressed as their favourite (or made up) superhero for the day (or wear something red if they would prefer). Children will have opportunities throughout the day to compete against other schools on TT Rock Stars and there will be prizes for best scoring schools and individual pupils, as well as prizes for the best dressed across the schools! We can’t wait to take part this year.

Staffing:

We would like to welcome Miss Powell who is joining Year 5 as a teaching assistant for the rest of this academic year. Miss Harte is also working in Year 5 now while Miss Taylor is working in Year 1. We would also like to offer a very warm welcome to Miss Peachey who has joined us as the class teacher in Year 1. I am sure you will join me in welcoming them all to the West Meadows family.

Attendance:

For this half term we are launching a ‘Marvellous Monday’ attendance reward to help improve attendance. For each Monday that children attend they will receive a raffle ticket for an attendance prize draw. The raffle draw will take place in the last week of the half term so children have four chances to enter.

Multiplication Check Workshop:

On Thursday 8th May at 9:00am, Mrs Walton, our maths lead, will be running a Multiplication Check workshop / information session for parents and carers of children in Year 4. This will be held in our community room and parents can come into school via the main reception. We look forward to seeing you there.

Year 4 Scooter Skills:

West Meadows Year 4 class have been chosen to take part in an exciting pilot programme to encourage children to walk, scoot or cycle to school. Year 4 parents should have received an email before the holidays explaining the programme. Our Year 4 children will have their first scooter session next Thursday afternoon in school. Please ensure that children have their PE kits and suitable footwear in school to change into. They will also need a hoodie or coat dependent on the weather.

Attendance Matters:

Every Friday we will celebrate our children’s achievements, both in school and at home, including their attendance in school. Good attendance is vital for your child’s education and means they can make the most of all aspects of school life. We really need your support this year to raise our attendance. If you need any help or support please come and see Mrs Maree. You can see your own child’s attendance for the year and the last 4 weeks on the Arbor App. An attendance of 97% or above is considered to e good attendance.
