UDIS NEWSLETTER ISSUE #13

Preschool/K1: Storytellers! - K1 learners have been busy inquiring about family histories. We have delved deep into discussions about the purpose of families, who comprises our families, and the diverse appearances of families. We are currently creating our own family trees by painting single portraits to illustrate why each family member is special. Stay tuned for our observations on Toddle.
Y1: Fairy bread - Year 1 had a blast making the beloved Australian childhood treat, "Fairy bread." They crafted their own set of instructions for others to use. To add a twist, they exchanged their instructional writing with a friend who had to read and follow it to make the fairy bread in class. It was a delightful experience, and the student's instructional writing was both clear and informative.
Y3: Structure of plants - This week Year 3 have been looking at the structure of plants and how water and nutrients are transported within. We were lucky enough to be invited into the science lab to have a look at some plant cells under the microscope!
Y5: Exploring digital media - Year 5 has begun a new unit titled “New digital media changes the way in which people access information and connect to each other.” They are comparing and contrasting old and new technologies and responding to the question, “explain the advantages and disadvantages of old and new technologies?” We have also completed our PSPE units on human development and sexual health helping prepare us as we prepare for puberty.
MY: International Mindedness Day - As a key part of the IB philosophy, international mindedness helps students embrace diversity and understand that different perspectives are important in offering solutions to real-world problems. This is consistently integrated into many of our projects as learners investigated the development of knowledge over time and its place in various subjects. On March 1st, the MY students shared their projects with the school community during our International Mindedness Day event.

Student success at UDIS: Year 6

Chris, Linux, Tanat and Tankhun enhanced their culinary skills by preparing quesadillas for the International Mindedness Day. Although cooking them on the day proved challenging at first, they preserved and their tasty Mexican treats were well received by the school community.

Thai at UDIS: Thai dancing

Students in Year 3 had the chance to learn more about Thai dancing skills. Students have been practising a traditional dance performance in preparation for our upcoming Songkran event. This is tied into our unit about Thai celebrations.
