Winter Sickness
As we head into the winter season of gastro bugs and cold/flu viruses (including Covid) could we please ask that you:
- Advise students are away through either Hero, an email to office@nukumea.school.nz or a phone call to Mrs O on 09 3201376.
- Remember that a child can only return to school after 48 hours (2 days) have passed since the last time they vomited or had diarrhoea.
- Keep children home if they have a fever, runny nose or persistent cough.
- Remind children to wash their hands frequently.
Our school garden is beautiful and we are trying to take good care of it. We have had some help from Helen who is from Oke Charity. They donated the beautiful gardens to us.
We planted lots of seeds that are in the greenhouse which then will go into the garden beds when they are big enough. Thanks to Kings Plantbarn Silverdale for giving all the plants to us. We want to share our vegetables with all our families when they are ready for harvest. We planted cabbage, broccoli, lettuce and lots more including flowers straight into the beds. The flowers help bees to come which are good for our garden.
It was so fun with Helen because she knows so much and we love making our school so cool.

The Stream Team aims to look after the Nukumea stream by doing water testing and some air testing. We also need to see if the water is cold enough for fish to live in. They don't like hot water. We need special water testing equipment to do these tests.
This year we have followed the 'Water is a Treasure' programme with Kate from Whitebait Connection who has taught us lots of skills, and has kindly given our school our own water testing kit. We are so excited to use it and show kaitiakitanga some more! Thank you so much Whitebait Connection and the Hibiscus Coast local board.
Don't forget that everyone can help keep our stream clean by only putting water down the drains and picking up rubbish before it gets into our waterways.

We look forward to seeing you then.
Matariki Disco
It's Nukumea's first ever school disco! Admission: $5 p/student. This will help fund our whole school trip to the Stardome Observatory in Term 3. Please pay using KINDO as we are unable to accept cash.
Please drop your child/ren off at the hall at 6:30. They will be supervised by our school staff. You can return at 7:45 to join us on the dance floor, have some hot chocolate, and if it’s a clear night, enjoy some star gazing outside before we head home.
Any questions, please contact: office@nukumea.school.nz
Have a wonderful (and warm/dry) week everybody.
